I'm going to be camping for a night near arthur and butler next month and was hoping to get some advice from members of the board

Any thoughts?

Bear Run campground is pretty nice. A little expensive but pretty nice. Also check out Rose Point Campground just west of lake Arthur on 422.

I've stayed at Bear Run and was just fine.  I think they may have a 2 night policy though, maybe just weekends though?  Last time was maybe 10 years ago.  There was a food truck there, that made lunch easy.  They rent canoes too, but I didn't rent one.  Ask for the primitive sites if you want to get away from the RVs & their AC units (that goes for any campground).

I've heard the Coopers Lake is nice too, and the lake itself is full of nice large mouth.  Just make sure it isn't, pretend you are in medieval times week, Jeep weekend, fireworks or 5K race or any.  They hold a lot of events that draw a lot of people.

Jeep weekend was last week, so he is good there.  The "pretend" guys are called "SCA" or Society for Creative Anachronism.  Fancy name for smelly dudes with a bunch of foam swords and weed.  That said, camping is complete BS.  I work so I can have stuff.  Why would I want to practice being homeless?  No zombie apoc, no sleeping outside.  And even if it was a Z.A. I'd still sleep inside.

In your honest opinion Zelie() given a chance to party with the "SCA" or the "FTA" which do you think might be the experience of a life time?

In both cases, be they wearing "foam swords" or 'dead animals' for hats, you will find a bunch of "smelly dudes" having a big partaay.   Pretty sure you will find home grown 'tobaccy' (in ample supply) along with home brewed beverages and, good conversation at either event.

Then again, knowing your feelings with regard to camping, maybe just a weekend stay at a resort lake where "hairy old guys" speed around in their big boats!

Better yet, go have a ball fishing Arthur this evening and catch a bunch..................

PS.  Remember the water level is up a bit, so don't wade out too far.  WireNut says it ain't no fun fishing with cold 'wet junk' brrr.......10-4?

I'll probbly stick with bear run. It seems to be more popular than a lot of other nearby spots. I'm going to enjoy living like a homeless person for a night

I don't think Coopers lake is even availuable to the public anymore. except for the festivals and stuff that goes on there.

Well THIS is why I was cursed with the wet junk yesterday!  Been raining nonstop here for weeks and my boat seat has a tear in it.  Just enough to waterlog a square foot of foam that I had to sit on.  And I was dumb enough to think a towel would save me.  SIGH.  It didn't.  The lake is crazy high and the fish are all busy building arks, but we still managed to have some fun.  And no smelly people OR naked old dudes.  That's a good time.  :)

ENO junglenest hammock system camp where you want, away from people, protected from the bugs. Just be careful with motion sickness at first.
