Smallies?
Anybody up there fishing for them? The DSR reports lots of action on nice size fish.

Can you fish for smallmouths in the tribs now? Its ain't kosher to target out of season fish in NYS, even C+R. Of course. if you are fishing for drop backs and happen to get a smallie, that' s life.

troutbum21 To answer the question, yes, you can fish for them in the closed season but catch and release only/artificial lures only. http://www.eregulations.c...e-angling-regulations/
Actually Gerry, the answer is No, you cant target them in the tribs, Even C&R.. The Mighty Hudson is the same. Black Bass (Lake Ontario and tributaries in Jefferson County & St. Lawrence River and tributaries)3rd Sat in June through Nov 3012″5Fishing for black bass (including catch & release) is prohibited outside of the open season. Well it does say Jefferson County, so I might be skewed on my response..

Tuna, I read the reg's and thought as you but there is no special provision for the Great Lakes except for Jefferson County.

The little- less -mighty- Hudson Hudson above the Troy Dam to Hudson Falls is year round C&R, but is slow now as they are either on their beds or sulking, having finished the spawn. It'll light up in about 2 weeks. I had a good start to the smallie season. I can't imagine going to the SR after smallies myself, too many good to great places near home. Boats are non-existent at the dam. now. I F'in missed another year...... I am going to the coast Memorial Day, but I would have loved to pull one aboard the Daisy Mae. Thanks for the reports and pics, HT. Was good stuff. If I ever can catch up a little, maybe I can come out and catch a ride on the big pond. That'd be pretty neat to me, having never been. I was pretty disappointed I didn't make it out, believe me.

Reading it there, I think it is only Jeff Cty and St Larry and tribs no targetting, rest of the tribs are C+R. Good to know, thank you very much.

I do target them for C&R. I've heard the SR "ain't what it used to be" in numbers. I haven't been fishing the SR long enough to make that kind of statement. I will say that 2 weeks ago, I didn't catch a smallie while fishing in town although I saw some spin fisherman floating worms or sacks and getting the occasional steelhead. I attributed this to a smallie season that was pushed back a few weeks due to the extremely harsh winter temps. Since that trip, the SR has dropped to minimal flows. I bet the smallie spawn is in full swing.

Charlie yesterday I brought my dads boat to the marina hope to have it back in a week or so. I will let you know when its back and we'll hit the river and raise so hell. Local creeks not doing me any favors all I've gotten is small Browns and Brookies i guess I don't have my dads lucky touch. Good luck on the coast hope we can fish when you return.

Gave the salmon two efforts this weekend for smallies. Didn't see any spawning and caught 0... Small efforts. Numbers have been down in ThE salmon. Wouldn't be surprised if eel kill treatments have effected it. Although numbers are down, size is still good. Many outtings with nothing smaller than 2.5's

Wayne, hit the Mettawee last night and caught lots of bows and some browns on dries. Were you fishing the upper K..................s? We will go out and wreak some havoc on the smallies. Talk to you soon.
