lake donegal fishing club

A friend of mine is interested in starting a fishing org. for Lake Donegal. We would like to see if there is any interest or ideas out there. Please feel free to either p.m. me or post on here.  sam

Maybe a club with priorities other than polluting another lake with pellet heads would be cool... no offense. But species that don't die in august are cool.

fishingguy,no offense taken but we are intrested in ideas such as what would you suggest they stock? btw I doubt that there is much die-off in a lake as deep as Donegal that is fed from a cool stream like 4-mile. Also not specifically talking about just stocking, maybe something like building structure or having family days etc.   sam

There are a TON of sites dedicated to stocking techniques.  The most accepted for our area is the largemouth bass + bluegills formula.  But if I had a nice big deep lake, I'd stock wipers instead.  I'm also a fan of perch over bluegills, but that's just me.  Here's a great resource for you:  http://forums.pondboss.com/

Stock channel cats and i'd be interested in joining.  Max depth of Donegal is only 20ft and that is at the dam, most of the lake is under 8ft deep.

In my humble opinion. The main thing lacking in alot of the small lakes around are the smallest and biggest species. channel cats can certainly fill the apex predator void. I cut open the belly of a 24" channel cat from Arthur a week or so ago and inside were 2 6" bluegills.lots and lots of Fatheads and shiners I would think would make for a diverse and thriving fishery. One that weeds out overpopulated stunted bluegills and bass and feeds the ones that are left very very well.

Ryan, while ice fishing a few years back we marked depths of almost 30' in front of "Hyatts Cove" As far as cats go, the state has been stocking fingerlings in there up to 2006 or so. The 4th biggest channel reported to the state in 2014 was taken there,it was 17# 8oz. Donegal is one of the better Cat lakes around, along with Musky & eyes & yet abounds with miniture Crappie & gills.  sam

I may also be interested if there is a possibility of working towards stocking larger species such as catfish. I used to fish donegal pretty frequently when I lived in Acme. Haven't been there in a while but would like to start going there again.

The saugeyes in donegal are like unicorns...  I've seen 1 in the 5 years i've fished it and it was infront of the tunnel discharge dead...  Was probably a good 20"...  I've seen a musky carcass near the spillway aswell (probably left there by a weekend warrior...)  It was a bit to far away from the shore to be a wash up from a high water situation and a bit too big for a bird to put there imo...   I do know that there are some monster tiger musky but just really hard to find...  I'd love to figure that lake out from shore and catch more then just small gills and trout...
