Brady's Run Question

The lake is open to year around fishing, I know that. People have been fishing the creek above the lake up to the first dam(bridge on main road) for several weeks. This section is not stocked, any fish in there come up out of the lake. This is where it gets confussing, nobody knows what the rule. One WCO said it was open up to the road, then we were told it's not.
Does anybody know ? I can't find it in the book.

If it's not stocked, what reason would they give for it being closed?

That specific section is not stocked, the south branch above the lake is stocked but just from the dam upwards. The section I'm speaking of is the 200 yard section from the dam above the lake to the mouth. All those fish in there ran up out of the lake, which is open.
It's just confussing, once WCO said yes and one.

Thats the same as the creek at keystone out flow my buddy and i where about to head down and try it one year. Earlier we had talked to a wco about oasis bridge area. And we stopped and where about to head sown and he pulled up and jking said this aint oasis road. That creek flows out of the lake and trout get in it and its not an approved trout stream he told us we couldnt fish it. So it is a grey area.

From the dam/ bridge down has always been considered the lake for as long as I've fished there,at lease 50 years. I fish there 4 times in March and saw wardens each day with no problems. Tons on trout with the high water,I fished the little peninsula past the windmill and in 4 hours caught 112 trout on a trout magnet under a  jigging bobber, with the barb smashed down, didn't matter what color tail, white, orange, chartreuse all worked well. All fish released unharmed but can't say that for others, group of power baiter killed or wounded several fish, the eagle ate good that day.

Hows it been jeb. It is some funny rules and the rules are if your 100 yards or something like that, away from approved trout waters you are allowed to fish, even if the creek right above you is being stocked. When i called the fish comm.. office this is what they said. So if its not approved trout waters in that section, happy fishing to you.  Just be sure your more than 100 yards away from the approved trout water just to be sure.

this is listed as the lower limit of the stocking area above the lake:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.72481999,-80.36199999+(South%20Branch%20Brady%20Run%20-%20Section%202)

it shows where the road crosses the creek above the lake.  if you have to be 100 yards below the lower limit of the stocking area, that would take you all the way down to about right across from the picnic shelter.

Not one day 4 hours, cast and crank should have been there, my all time PB. Some guy's caught way more. It was 3 days after they stocked 3500 trout and it rained and just about half the trout where headed up stream for the warmer water. The lake was still iced over 75 percent. You don't have to believe me,but that's the way it was,the next day fished 2 hours and caught 5 fish but the stream drop about a foot and went to 23 degrees that night.

Jeb, I met you down Ambridge Sportsmen's Club sever years ago, When Emmit Kyler was the fish warden there a couple of years ago I asked him the same question, he said you can fish from the Foot Bridge down, the new Fish warden is Jeremy, I talked to him after he replaced Emmit, and he said the same thing, that he had talked to Emmit about it, you can fish from the foot bridge down, now a funny story if you know Frankie, they both said to keep Frankie below the foot bridge LOL.   Also too the gentlemen questioning Big Tuna on the numbers of fish, I don't know him personally, but I was there that day, if it was when the Bald Eagle was flying, he caught at least that, and several of us caught at least that, you have to have been there to see it, I had plenty of days there with those numbers in the past several years.  Good luck fellows and have at it.  John

thats a good fish, they are all good, some are gooder than others

Who counts 112 fish??? Look I'm sure you caught a lot, and I'm guessing it was pretty fun! I've had days where the arm gets sore from catching. But I stop counting somewhere around double digits. What possessed you to keep counting? And why post that on the inturdnet? It will do nothing but bring more people to a spot. I don't fish there so I don't care. But it all just seems odd to me.

I don't always fish for stocked trout, but when I do, I plan on catching 100.

Thanks  John, for the verification. So I'm anal and counted my buddy won the contest with 117.I payed for lunch.I'm not into numbers or posting so won't get into the numbers of  slabs and bulls through the ice or eyes from pymatuning or wipers from Arthur already this year. Yes all I can say what a year on the ice.  As for trout I don't even fish for them, so good luck on the pellet heads.Brady's Run is hardly a secret spot. You don't see me posted any ice fishing spots.  Sorry to get you putter fishermen in a ruffle.

Don't know Big Tuna -- never met the guy. But if he says he caught 112, that's good enough for me. Why? Because I count fish too. In fact, I typically carry a clicker. Why? Because I like to know how I did against myself. Sorry for being competitive.

Sometimes the clicker reads over 100 and sometimes it reads zero. But I know how I did.

Are the days with the most fish always the best or most memorable? No. But they don't suck either.

If you haven't had one of those days where you're whakin the stockies every cast, you need to get out more. I've had days like that in certain places, almost gets old actually. Don't think I've ever broken 100, but probably could have if I had stuck it out. Wasn't counting, but had to have been 50+ in a couple hours. Maybe 1 in 10 casts didn't get a fish. Maybe. I won't tell you the spot though. .. and the weather pattern has to be just right and include lots of rain.

There has been multiple days of trout fishing at brady's run like that. If they weren't in the creek, all you had to do is walk down by the island and fish near shore. The trout have been following the warm water in all the lakes open to year round fishing. They should be spreading out and following the bugs (weeds) by now.
