The only performance that will lack by using a regular noodle rod is mending the line and keeping the line off the water. The traditional float rod (13+) makes it a lot easier to keep line off the water, thus allowing for drag free drifts and swinging the presentation ahead of the float and terminal tackle. On small water, like a majority of the Erie tribs, you can get away with using a 10ft noodle rod with a centerpin.. Bigger water, like the Cat and the Oak, you definitely will benefit using a longer rod. If you get a pin, and it fits in the seats, you could do it on small water.
