Back at ya Mikastorm....................  Won't be in the woods hunting bare; too cold........ (sorry) but, I got plenty of popcorn (left over from archery) and I'm ready for the pictures.

Been doing it for two days already. So far all I have seen is a 12-16 hour track. Too old for this body to start on. A bit nippy today.

From what I'm seeing out my back door and the temperatures (air & wind chill) on the thermometer; I'm gonna stay right here, in front of the 'puter', with a big bowl of popcorn and wait for the pictures.

    Good luck S-10.

Nope, never hunted bears.  Heck, I've only ever seen 2 in my life, and neither while hunting.  Couldn't bring myself to spend the cash to get one mounted or a get a rug made.  The thought of working my way through 100# of bear meat doesn't sound real appealing to me, though I'm sure there are ways to make it palatable or even good.  So no real reason for me to hunt 'em.

Yep, messed up the old one.

Thanks for the offer eyes but, I'm off the pickles for now cause somebody told me eating pickles while hunting deer ain't a good idea.  So, I thought why not eat the same thing a deer would eat.  So I'm eating carrots..............  Pickled carrots and, I made em myself.................  so I did!

I'm going bear hunting up elk county with the rifle. Anyone know of any opportunities for bear near pittsburgh. I might try and cut some tracks at the nearest game lands if we get a little fresh snow this week with the bow.

Preface this by saying what I said above - have never hunted bears myself and have only ever seen two.

But, if I decided I wanted to start somewhere "near" Pittsburgh, I'd be checking out the Game Lands maps on the PGC website in Butler, Armstrong and Westmoreland County.  There is state and/or otherwise public land in each of those three counties that you can get to in under an hour from Pittsburgh, including 3 different gamelands where I've seen bear tracks while hunting pheasants and ducks in the past 3 years.

And most state land in those three counties, you can hit in no more than an hour and a half.

If by "near" Pittsburgh you mean Allegheny County or 2B . . . start knocking on some doors.  Seem to be quite a few in the northern reaches of 2B where I hunt.  Friend of mine in 2B said his neighbor had 5 different ones on the trail cam late summer/early fall.  Read a report in the Trib last week about a couple bow killed bears in Fawn and Clinton Twps this fall.

SGL 51 or, up around Moraine....for bear areas close.  Anywhere on the fringes of 2B you might get lucky but, the pressure will be minimal and I doubt there will be snow cover to aid tracking.

Don't bear hunt myself so that's the best I can do for advice.
Some of the state parks off of Rte. 31 between Donegal T-pike exit and Hidden Valley looked pretty "Beary" when I mountain biked those trails in years past but, I haven't been up that way in awhile.

Heading up to #42 ---as usual----now for +25years...
I must be simple? NEVER saw a live one yet.
As usual only have Monday and Tuesday.

This year will be different. My hunting buddy got called home 3 months ago.
Going to his favorite hollow and set up for the day. He killed 2 in there.
Maybe he will put in a good word with the big guy and have one pushed to me........
    Be safe all.....

    Oh yeah.....one the menu:
Got some cold meatloaf sandwiches with ketchup and onions.
Sweet tea,Lemon Blennd, cookies(lots), chips and more..........
Anyone in the area?? place your order for lunch now......
    Got no pickles----YET----

Yes there are bear here in Forward township, Allegheny County, but not enough pressure to get them moving.
