I will throw in my report here as it is not much of one. I am watching my sisters kids this weekend so not alot of time. Got 3 hours this am. I now have a 10 foot TFO 8 weight. Thanks to a deal I could not pass up. You guys were right it is definitely a little more to cast and took a bit to get used to an 11 would have been even more so. Casting, mending and line control way easier. Remembering there is an extra foot, not so much. Caught my line a few times behind me on rocks and trees where my 9 footer would not have. Lost a decent one probably due to a scarred leader as it broke right in the middle. I had 2 decent plays and a few head shakes, but nothing close to the net. Got a good spot for most of the time and more tome would have produced more results I think. Fish are starting to move into the pool and there are less in the fast water. Probably not in the cards for tomorrow so Wednesday will be the next. My granny is in rehab in Oswego so I may put a day in up there next week.

Try behind the motels Clint... Sacs bottom bounced in the back eddy... Should be prime with the thaw and all. Hope your granny is well ...

Still want to try oz someday, I'll look forward to your report. You'll find with some more time with the new toy that less rod movement is necessary to move line and you'll hang up in the trees far less. The best thing about longer rods is the mending. More mends=less weight needed=less fouls and better overall presentations. I think I got a pro lifter to think about his methods and how he'd get more fun out of not fouling every fish ,the other morning. He actually walked down to ask the how and why of multiple mends. He's getting sick of snapping fish off and having them control him. Maybe he'll start thinking about fishing legally. Glad you still are a regular on the river, Clint. Always appreciate the report, even if it's a few hours. Best wishes for your Granny.

This makes me happy. I love when it happens.

The sight fisherman we shared water with a few weeks ago started doing a lot less watching the fish and a lot more playing legal ones after he saw us connect. Even the one he said he force fed had the hook in the corner, with the egg up the line from the fight, and to place the fly that precisely without some help from the fish was quite a feat!

Charlie if timed right with water flows you can swing flies traditionally in parts.

Charlie, have never done it myself but have heard about it and have seen water that would cater to it. I just never really went out that way much. I would give it a try one of these days. I do know of a guide who spey fishes big wets exclusively on oswego. I've seen his results and they are stellar to say the least. My go to anytime I've gone out that way was noodle rod off the wall bouncing sacs... Big browns and rainbows

I have only fished there a few times myself and it has been floating sac's. Way less since they closed off the east side. I do not really go over alot since the river is so close and Oswego is about 35 minutes (I know, I know, such a long drive). Couple that with the fact the siren can go off at any moment and it' s not worth it. You need a PFD (not that that's bad thing ) too. You can fish at night above the bridge I think.

Never fished the OZ much myself. Really never found enough water to my liking and its not like the SR where you wander down a trail to the next hole or run. Concrete jungle. That said I have fished it when guide friends were looking to fill up on brown eggs. Mostly high sticking with buggers and big nymphs for me while they used spinning rods (ah the old days before pins). Lots of browns of all sizes with goodly numbers of rainheads mixed in.

All true Lucky. And I might add when I went back by myself he came down and hooked one up sighting. I hooked 2 when my swing was maybe 5 feet above him. The fish almost rolled into him on the thrashing take. He stopped and we chatted a bit and then he went off somewhere else. He didn't say it but I got the impression it was to let me fish the whole run undisturbed. Also think he stopped and watched for a while since he didn't cross back over for a 1/2 hour or so. I think he was trying to figure out what we were doing.

Like it is rocket science. ll: Quarter upstream, throw a hard upstream mend, keep the end of the line leading the rod, mend as necessary through the drift to keep things straight, and follow the swing until everything is on your side, wait, because there is often that strong pull so hard to hook right at the end, ... Repeat, take a step down stream, repeat..... :ll Same as a traditional swing, except for the 3/0 shot 2 feet or so up the leader to get the fly down to the fish a little more, and places like the tail of the meadow from the south side, you don't even want to be using the shot, just the fly in the film.
