11/2/14

Well this report probably does not even deserve it's own thread. I decided last night that I was going to cover water today.  I worked a long shift yesterday and we had company last night so I was up late and with daylight savings in the mix I did not leave the house until just before light.  Started where I think TB and L13 were the other day, but from the other side and although the water was nice got nothing and only saw 1 fish hooked. Lucky I was on the other side as there was plenty of room, because quite a few fished from the opposite bank. I then switched parking lots and went down to another spot and although I found some room it was pretty crowded  with boats and people. Saw a few hooked there and one was a Skam by the fin clip. Again not a tug. I then decided to head a bit farther down river to a spot that rarely lets me down. Walked in and my flybox fell out of my bag in the car so I had to make the trip back to the car. Luckily this spot was the closest walk at about 20 minutes round trip. I was again disappointed with nary a pull and only one fish jumped around. Decided to try the LFZ as a last resort, but when I got there although there was a little room sell the prime spots were taken and I did not feel like losing a bunch of tackle at the spots that were open.  All the fish I saw taken were in pretty fast water. I got skunked today. Very few salmon around, but I did see I that was still pretty fresh on a stringer.  I think  few days of higher water would do wonders.

Sorry to see you did about on parr with me, Clint. If it's any consolation, though I wouldn't wish a bad day on you, you made me feel better. I thought I couldn't frikkin' fish anymore .  Now I know it was just some tough going. Thanks for the report.  Fish are piled up in a little band along the north bank. Same place the salmon held.  Some aholes were having  a field day when I was there for awhile Fri.  Fin hooked one every 10 minutes. I thought they were using eggs in about a 6, then I realized it was there  lead marbles I was seeing and I couldn't even see the fly. I heard sz. 18's mentioned. They were yakking about how they had "fished" the river for 30 years.  Best thing was  a seagull **** on one guys head.   2 guys rotated your rock from dark to dark. I stopped by at 5 on my drive in and  they were still there when I looked at late dusk.  They apparently did OK swinging through the tail and into the head of the fast water.  I was going to call you, then we left Sat. aft.  Good luck next time out.

Could be the cold front put them off the bite.

Fished Saturday afternoon in UFZ...hooked 3 HUGE steelhead on buggers. Previously I had stuck to eggs or streamers but I have a new go2 fly! Of course I tied three and lost all of them ... 2 in fish and one to the River god. Got back out this morning but had no takers on my spawn flies. I did see one guy hooked up but the fish spit his spawn fly. The wind really picked up and was brutal. Had to leave to come home, but can't wait to get back to cabin over Thanksgiving!

Tuesday Wednesday was the high of a week's worth of climbing temps, and they dropped since then, we're supposed to see the rise again by tomorrow.  The last few years when we have had some pretty slow times we've always caught the low point in the temperature cycle.  So I'm with Two bob (usually)  the cold front may have turned things off.  We shall see.

PM sent, I deleted like 150 old ones. It was getting stacked up.

Slightly better day midriver. Hooked up 6 times landed 3, one of which was a monster bow. Lost a big steel yesterday in town and another today. Yesterday hooked 2 landed one which was chrome. Weather appears to be throwing a bunch of curve balls for the remaining days this week.

I will be going up tomorrow and trying it again.  Worse part of all was Sunday was my birthday🎂🎂. I had been spoiled the last few years.
