Hopefully tonight's as good. I could see walleye hitting bait fish on the surface like bass last night

First time I fished so late into the night targeting Walleye. Spent late afternoon thumping jigs on the bottom in 20+ FOW and couldn't catch a snag.

Just before sundown I moved to the shallow shoreline and commenced chucking Shad Raps and Flicker Shads.

Caught & released two 18" eyes then "hooked and released" a...... ummmm, don't know what it was but it was close to a record, I betcha.

Certainly was a beautiful night on the Pymie.

Old dog, just do it. It only takes me 3 days to recover from a night shift on Pymatuning. I should be out on the lake trolling in the stumps Saturday with my son. We will be in a 16' Sylvan. I'll be the old guy up front in the lawn chair. Hope to meet some of you out there...olds

Woke up this morning and was immediately notified, fishing at night requires an entirely different set of muscles (the ones you didn't know you had), then those needed for day time angling. Ouch!!!!

Oldspa you say three days needed to recover, that's certainly re-assuring, just two days to go. lol

Owwww it hurts to laugh!!!!

I find aspirin helps relieve the aches and pains from fishing, building a dock, pushing the dock into the lake, cutting grass, tying my shoes, etc.

I will be at the lake this weekend, hopefully I will have something worth posting here tomorrow evening.

I'll be up again tonight. I'm starting in my usual spot then may try around snodgrass depending on the bite and how much company I have. Btdt the best way to cure the aches and pains is more fishing!

Does anybody here fish the shoreline near Orchard launch? Seems to be a group of about 7 people there every evening that I'm on the lake.

I fish a ways north of it but can see the light at the launch. Are they all fishing the stretch to the left of the launch about halfway to the point?

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2016/04/22 13:42:11 (permalink)
Caught lots of fish after sundown over the years. Midnight fishing is been in our blood for many years. Can't beat the quietness and calmness, and the strike in the darkness ! You need to be prepared with your gear ahead of time to save yourself trouble at night.

Small tip to beginners ....No lights !

Use minimum lights on water and turn your back toward shore when you do turn on a small light.
Walleye are especially sensitive to light and will spook away.
You would be surprised how shallow Walleye get when feeding, so no lights will produce more fish. Some nights we rarely turn a light on !

I've had equal success with lights on or off. Some of my best nights there were 4 of us with lights on the whole trip.

Outasync: yes they are to the left of the Orchard launch, bunched up more than I would expect. but what do I know? Not sure where the point is that you are referring to. One of the waders is always out really far, like he should be flooding his waders... and there's always a boat out there, probably casting back at the waders.

Thanks for the tips Captain.

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2016/04/22 14:26:15 (permalink)
Yeah that's why I don't fish there until later at night. Usually by 11 it's cleared out. This year I've had to wade further than usual to get more hits. I used to wade about thigh or knee high now I'm up to about 4 inches from the top of my waders. I've caught alot of fish casting parallel to the bank.

Anybody here fishing either of the Pymatuning Lake Association tourneys? Crappie on April 30th and Walleye on May 14th. My wife  signed me up as a member for Christmas, and I volunteered to help help on the 30th. Was just thinking it might be a good way of meeting anybody who hangs out here.

Crappie fished the Linesville area yesterday. Cold and windy but still managed to put thirty crappies and a few gills in the box. Glad I had my ice suit on. That north wind was cold. Jig under bobber got em all.

Nice catch chauncy. That wind definitely had some bite to it. Slower night for me yesterday. Picked up one eye and a few cats.

Caught two walleye from the boat yesterday, in the middle of the afternoon in about 6 to 8 feet of water. I caught one about 14" and my wife one just over 15". Both went back to grow up a bit. We were just north of orchard in the Maple Grove area, where our cottage is. caught them drifting night crawlers.

Was the first time I've had the boat out since last August, sure was nice to be out.

North wind was blowing strong last night too , churned the lake up too much for me.
Walleye were not cooperating very good.

Congratulations to you and your wife Roy, good to hear you could get out to enjoy a little R&R and caught Walleye too.

Only one crew, I spoke with last night, reported two small Walleyes in the late afternoon and they fished til 11:OO PM ish.

10-4 On the wind Captain, while it did create a good drift along the shore lines and around points, it did have enough chill to cut through a sweat shirt and a fleece vest making for a bit of a nippy night.

Fished from 7:00 pm til 11:00 PM around Snodgrass tossing Shad Raps and Flicker Shads in 3 to 5 FOW and put one nice sized cat in the boat that took a Flicker Shad.  Geez talk about a heart pounder, when I got the first glimpse of the fish passing through the light of my headlamp, I thought YESSSSSS.......  fish on!!  Stupid catfish!

Today, it's back to the Aspirin, Tylenol, Aleve, Midol or,  what ever nulls and voids a relapse of aches, agony, misery, criks, spasms and strain.

Tight lines to each and all.
