roygpa Is the lure of choice typically a big shallow running Rapala? Anybody have luck with anything else? Might try tonight and tomorrow night. Supposed to be a balmy 34 degrees tomorrow night with some snow. Just right. :) I think that the global climate change problem has reversed itself to global cooling and it started the day after my wife and I closed on our cottage in Espyville. Get ready for an ice age. We can ice fish year round except for the on mile thick glacier on top of the lake. -Roy
Roy I'm thinkin' this might be the year of "Global Wind" I bet I know how I can fix the wind thingy, I'll just go buy a sailboat and with my luck, the wind will stop for sure.

Roy,a lot of stuff will work,Raps 11's Firetiger perch, silver and black. Long A bombers floaters short lip, Bango's short lip, Thunder sticks ,even spoons,a leadhead jig and a 4" twister tail, cast the jig out let it sink a little and nice slow retrieve. I prefer 1/8 oz head,it's light and easier to feel the sometimes light bump. I'd be lying if I didn't say my go to lure is a Rap. Good luck.

20 at 9" Great idea!!! One fellow quoted that it will turn people away from the lake? Let me know, I'll hold the door open for them! IMO a 9" crappie for that lake is small, but that's just me, and I rarely keep more than ten or so anyhow. Hope this goes through, and if need be, then let it be a limit of 30, but I'm rooting for 20

I would be happy with that. But would be really be enforced? I only seen 1 guy checked last year. They don't have the manpower to enforce the rules now.

It will be interesting to see how this goes. I don't mind it either usually only keep 10 or 15 most of the time ..wife doesn't like fish so I just take what is good for me usually picky on the size I keep also.... Then there are days I don't have to be picky cause I catch zero fish 😜

In the last three years I have been checked three times on the North end, and on several other occasions they were checking incoming boats at the marina. It won't be an end all, but it's a start. Too many times I see guys at the docks talking about their "catch" only to see twenty or so crappie in a minnow bucket! If they check boats en masse the first year or so the word will get out. Either way, I think it can only help the lake.

IMO, this would be great for the lake. I have heard of coolers full of 70s 80s and even up from guys during the spawn. Also I think 9" min size would be good also. Hope they can pass those changes sooner than later.

i didn't realize that there was no limit on crappies until this year. I always limited myself to what I thought my family could eat. A couple of the biologists were talking about this at the open house at the Linesville hatchery. I'm all for greater than 9 inches and 20 fish, sign me up. I say change it for this year. -Roy

The combined limit for panfish at Arthur was 10 for some yrs. It didn't seem to make the fishin' better so they changed it back to 50. Noticed pressure was lighter, the meat hogs just went to Shenango & Pymy instead. I'd think the pressure will go up at Wihelm & Shenango which is just fine with me as it was when Arthur had a reduced limit. Since Arthur & Pymy are my home waters . The fishin' ain't gonna get better but the pressure might thin a tiny bit. Don't fix if not broken happy crappie

I'm sure I can remember a time when Pymatuning had a 50 combined limit for panfish. I'm not sure if it was still around when the walleye limit went from 13" to 15" or not. Pretty sure the walleye change was in the mid 80s but I am certain when I was I kid in the 60s that there was a 50 limit

Good luck fishing Wilhelm, that's one lake that should be special enhancement and they should start with "LEAVING THE WEEDS ALONE"!!! Crappie I would love to see the masses flock to Shenango, it would be really neat to see the lake plugged up so bad with anglers that the, one week a year, "old fat shirtless hairy guys" can't fly around with their big loud motors whipping screaming kids around on a rubber facsimile of the LocNess Monster. Add to that now, "old fat shirtless hairy guys" whipping around on a PWC dragging another "old fat shirtless hairy guy" on water skis. For my fan club, may yinz be blessed with that vision, each and every time you close your eyes, from now until, forever! However, that being said, I still agree with those in favor (including the biologist) [he said grimacing, with pain] of the Pymie recommendation. Tight lines to all.

I couldn't agree more a 20 fish limit and 9 inches is about right I'm my opinion. At mosquito lake in ohio they had that 9 inch ule for awhile now and there are some real slabs in there. It will be hard to enforce though they need to check everyone at the launch ramps and make the fine really high that would put a damper on the lawless. You know like a thousand bucks and boat confiscation!!!!!!!!! Whatever they can do to enhance pymatuning lake I'm for I love that lake and I would like nothing better than to see it improve and get as good as it was just a few years ago!!!

Well....boat confiscation...that is a little extreme....especially with a potential change to a "no limit" law that has been in place for awhile now? Lots of warnings should be the first year's approach with A LOT of signage at launches, bait shops, etc. to make anglers aware of any new changes. After sufficient notice is given, then start handing out tickets for over limit/undersized fish. But boat confiscation or $1000 fines, me thinks that is a little overboard. I still like Ohio's proposal of 30 fish per angler but I can see where PA would want to go with their standard panfish enhancement regs. and 20 fish. We shall see. Both sides have to agree to have a chance of getting is passed. I think Pymy could handle the 30 fish limit esp. with the 9" min. enacted.

Enforce the rule, $1000.00 fine, boat confiscation?? DAM-it-boy them some harsh penalties and, I couldn't agree more with your thinking. There needs to be strict compliance and those who want to 'foul play' should be made to pay. Enforcement would not be that difficult, just make 99% of the PSFBC biologist do something other then ride around on their pontoon taking samples of fishy scales. After all, The mission of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve, and enhance..... with protect being first and foremost. I think we already know about the "enhancement" thingy and how that's been working out.

Get off the keyboard and get out and fish. Change the limit to 25 from May 1 to July 1 and shut walleye down on April 1 to June 1 too. Then see how the lake buisnesses like those two rules. If you want to improve the lake, why not go all out? Maybe shutdown bluegill fishing from May thru July too. Keep perch and catfish open year round.

I don't think that a couple of guys fishing for crappies and being limited to 20 or so would have any affect on the local businesses as opposed to those same two guys keeping 50 or 60 each. The local businesses are pretty much, a restaurant or two, bait shops and a marina or two. Very few boats are rented as opposed to twenty years ago Many more boat owners. And anyone who fishes that lake with any regularity usually doesn't frequent the gas stations that have a tendency to be a wee bit higher in price as compared to their local stations at home. I don't usually see a lot of business at restaurants, except he McDonalds in Andover which I swear is ALWAY busy. And thirty years ago I could probably have named Thirty bait shops. Now there are just a select few, but their demise was more because of plastics and not fishing opportunity. The lake survived the Crappiethon days, and will survive being named in Bassmaster's top 100 bass lakes and the influx of bass tourneys. The bigger threats to the lake were probably the over fertilization of nearby fields, inadequate sewers, red spot disease, etc. All in all it's a terrific fishery and I hope it stays that way for a looonngg time. Personally, ten or so crappies a trip is fine with me, as many times that I go. I wouldn't know what to do with more! As far as the keyboard vs the lake, I'm with you and I thought really hard about it today but I couldn't bring myself to freeze again. Of course my next day off is Saturday and... nvm, it's going down to 18 degrees Friday night and 40% chance of snow Saturday!! Someone else can have my twenty that day! lol
