Early flintlock season

Went out this afternoon . I didn't see any deer......WF

    I spent the day setting stands for early November. Did not hear any shooting.

    Nephew put one in the freezer..... only one I know about. Dutchman down the road usually has a couple hanging off the overhang of the barn by the end of the day; nothing so far.

    Thinking about getting a flintlock; something in the price range of the Traditions Ready Pack. Any comment/ideas/recommendations on buying a 'smoke pole'?

    Grandson put a Thunderhead through one Sat and watched her fall. I watched the rain and leaves fall.

    Congrats to your grandson for a well placed shot causing a swift kill. As for watching the leaves and rain fall....... BeenThereDoneThat. :-P

    Put down a big FATTY in the first hour on Saturday. BTDT  If your buying a smoke pole. Not sure if you mean a inline or flint   I have Thomson center Z5 50. cal   that is one BAD^SS gun and shoots great. But much like smoke poles they kinda bite cleaning . At least the fire plug screws out making it a lot easier that's for sure

    Speaking of smoke poles, congrats on the 'big fatty'.

    I'm leaning toward a flintlock so I can hunt both seasons. Never owned one so I would like to hear pros, cons, do's and don'ts.

    Don't want to invest a lot initially but, do not want 'soured' because of crummy equipment. I've heard the Traditions RediPack is a good beginners kit?

    Standing-by for opinions............

    I have a Firestorm, recommended by Iron Hed, it definitely is easy to clean

    thats a good fish, they are all good, some are gooder than others

    I run a TC 50 cal Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock. Talk about accurate. The balance is perfect for me. I'm more accurate, free standing with it, than my inline at 50 yards. The inline has a scope the flintlock doesnt. As far as cleaning a flint lock, piece of cake. I wouldnt steer away from a good quality smoke pole because it doesnt have a removable breech plug. If anyone is interested in how and what I use to clean the smoke pole let me know.
