Field Trip Friday October 10th to Trout Run

On Friday October 10th, 11:30 am- 1:30pm I will be taking 35 7th grade students to Trout Run for an Educational Trip.  We are from the Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School which is on the east side of Erie.  Many of these students have never left the city of Erie before and I think this will hopefully spark some outdoor interests in the students.  On this trip, students will be asked to "interview a fisherman" (in the parking lot). They will also be doing mini water sample surveys, doing a fish count in the creek, and hopefully touching and measuring some steelhead.  This is where all you guys come in!!! If anyone plans on being there Friday, do you mind helping us out in any way?  Letting the students briefly interview you, letting them measure and touch your catch, and also watching your language and set a good example.  And trust me, these students will be on their best behavior, so no worries there! Thanks guys

I normally don't go to trout run, but I will go there on Friday. I love teaching kids and helping out the community. Consider me a volunteer. Can't promise I will catch anything since I use spinners and am usually not very successful,  but at least I can help in any other way possible. My name is Matt and I will have a super long pole, yellow glasses, a beige cap, and a very young-looking face.

That's a pretty cool thing to do, I wish I was able to get up there Friday and help out. I will be up there Monday with my 16 year old brother. It's going to be his first time fishing for the steel, hopefully you guys have a successful day and please post pictures. Thank you

Thanks for all the feedback!  The kids are very excited for this trip. Just hoping the wind/wave cooperates. Spinners: look forward to meeting you and thanks in advice for the help.

The trip was AWESOME!  The students had an amazing time and learned a tremendous deal while there.  Thank you to the fisherman who interacted with the kids, taught them a few things, let them measure and "gender-ize" their catch, and let them interview them.  Couldn't tell you how many times I heard the kids say, "I cant wait to go fishing" or "can you take us fishing" or anything else along those lines.
