The passive agressive snag.

Tossing a trebel hook over a pod of fish, slowing reeling in, and then giving a yank when you get to the pod is still illegal folks. Someone had to be reminded of that today--he might not have meant to do it, but he could get a fine anyway.

On the bright side I watched a kid legally hook and land a nice steelie in a pool that had all of the depth color and flow of a parking lot puddle.

so just out of curiosity, do you get the chance to go out to fish the streams or lake or just to give us the great reports and local info?

Glorified Snagging hooks. Don't forget the Russian casting a giant spoon out past the pod of fish, and reeling it back trying to "catch"/ snag the fish in the corner of the mouth.

Eventhough there hain't no depth or flow to the creeks right now, good to see youngsters fishing.

I'm not condoning snagging, but don't be afraid to fish a hole that someone has been doing this in.  I've actually caught many fish in holes where a guy was trying to blatantly snag by ripping big hooks and stirring up all the fish.  In the middle of the day it gets the fish all stirred up and aggressive.  Some people wouldn't fish that hole because they would think the fish are all spooked.  However, a lot of times I come up on a hole like that;  I'll start swinging minnows or streamers persistently right in front of fishes faces and get an angry aggressive bite for a while.

I don't get the whole snagging thing.. if they won't bite they wont bite. If you need food that bad hit a local food bank or give me a call and I'll buy you a sandwich off of the dollar menu at the burger king in Fairview... Just saying, what's the fun in snagging, learn how to fish then maybe you might catch one.

Great advice, thank you! Glad to hear people are ripping lips on the Erie tribs right now as I type! I'll be there in a few weeks and will sleep easy knowing there will be pods of steel waiting there for my taking! Thanks again

My personal favorite has become the Russian/Eastern European dudes with fly rods and an ounce of split shot staggered on their 15# mono leaders ripping wooly buggers through stacked fish.

3 times in the past 2 years, they've come right up beside my son and I as we're actively catching fish and do this crap right in our drift and tangle our lines.  3 times in the past 2 years I've called the WCO after they've snagged one and roped it.  Pretty fun to hang around once and watch 'em get their gear confiscated.

I haven't even wet my line yet this year for steel. I like fishing the upper stretches more than with the crowds, but going down to the access is pretty much part of my daily routine all year long.
