Finally joined the 21st centurey
Well I have been fighting it since the dam things came out but I finally had to get a cell phone. Recently I was elected president of the snowmobile club and was stated I should have a cell, so took the kid to Verizon and we got phones together. Can see how they might be handy but can also see how they could be a pain in the arse! Time will tell.

I am the cheese. I stand alone. Never had one. Think the wife will make me get one soon. Just in case, being a doddering old fool.

I got one, but it is nothing fancy, gets calls, sends calls and can even text too. Do not have one of those smart phones.

I got one to keep in emergency contact with my Mom, who's now 95 and still on her own (with our help). Handy some of the time, but I don't like texting and have the dumbest, cheapest of models.

many years ago wife and I both got a trac phone mostly due to driving crappy cars and me worrying about breaking down at 3am on way home from work. I never really used it much and had to keep buying mins to keep the phone active. Then we went to a basic cheap regular cell phone because it actually became cheaper then buying mins that we didn't use. Well as time went on we started using the phones more and more and our land line less and less. I hated getting scolecite calling ALL the time on the land line even though we were on the do not call list so we pulled the plug on ole Ma bell.. As my work became more involved I needed to do some research while I was away from a computer so I upgraded to a smart phone.. I have had that for about 5 years now and actually use my phone more then a computer or camera.. I like it and do feel naked if I forget my phone..

One if the reasons I do not get a ''smart phone'' is that we do not get service at my house and we are technically not lowed to have them on at work, couple that with driving time and it is not worth it. I have a Surface RT. I take wthh me on trips and access WiFi for a portable device.

Not sure of who your provider is Clint but I'm in the same boat at my house with sprint and they provided me with a box I connect to the internet and we get full bars at the house and yard. Kind of like our own cellphone tower. Can't beat it and it's free to boot

We use our land lines through time Warner in the house so no big deal here. We are planning to build a new house and would be out of the time Warner service area. With no internet we would lose the land line and just use the cell phone for a ''hot spot'' that is if we have service, we may have to check a few providers to find the best reception. We use Verizon now.

Clint since you mentioned Verizon that brings up a strange circumstance for me.I DO NOT receive Verizone cell phone service at my house. It works 1/2 mile from my house in all directions but not in my house. Therefore my Tracfone service is channeled thru AT&T.Been this way for many years and my residence is in a location among around 1/2 million people in the Lehigh Valley Penna.

Verizon sucks from the oswego county line and north... Couple the horrible service with a tin roof and you might as well forget about it... I honestly do wish they didn't exist though. They speed up the process of everything... Life wasn't meant to move so fast

This from my point of view. I am not important enough that people need to get in touch with me on a moments notice. I am not putting them down or the people that have them, but I don't need anything else to distract me and my ADHD. I am sure I will have one in the next year or so since my wife gets very nervous when I go hiking down in the gorge or am late getting back from the SR at my oh so rapidly advancing age.
