They make a spring loaded automatic fly reel. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/Pflueger®-Automatic-Fly-Reel/1280270,default,pd.html Sorry to hear about your arm. Hope everything works out OK for you.

I second the auto fly reel.  But with a little bid of building you should be able to fabricate a  device that will allow you to hold the rod under your left armpit.    You could mend line with your free right hand.  The host of the one KY afield show does everything right handed.  MY Idea would be get a old Army surplus .45 shoulder holster (puts gun under left arm)  use it to hold the rod after you cast.  Activate the auto reel with the little finger of your right hand.  Or you could just do everything right handed with an auto reel.

A few years back I helped a man with one arm land a steel-head, he had one of those fish fighting belts like they use for tuna and such, he put the rod in the holder and used that to fight the fish. I do not know if that would help with a fly rod, but it's an idea.

thx guys. the link cbeagler posted has two devices im going to save some money for. its a rod holding belt/harness and they also have an automatic retrieve spinning reel. i think the two together might get the job done. thinking springtime at this point. for now i'll enjoy practicing my god awful right handed cast,  taking pics, and bs'ing with other steel addicts. thanks again.

Also try using a noodle rod with an auto reel. The butt of the noodle will fit under you arm, or you could even fabricate a harness to attach the rod to your arm.  Then,  it's just adapting you to your gear.
