Near shore Buoy WQData LIVE
was wondering how accurate the wave height info was, yesterday wife and I were in 5 to 6 foot waves and they were showing 2 or less. this afternoon the lake blew up and was capping and it shows 1.5 wave height ? Maybe they mean "meters"

In no way, shape or form were there 5-6'ers yesterday. 3' at most. I was out this afternoon also and the biggest might have been 2'.
I have been running past it every morning, when weather allows, for almost 3 months now and it is dead on.

rmcmillen09 sounds like you're calling me liar . I highly doubt that it the case. It's likely more a scenario of people over-inflating or over-stating the actual wave heights. I myself was guilty of this for many years before I had a good understanding of how to accurately gauge the waves. Personally, I'd be inclined to trust the buoy's accuracy, if the guys who fish the lake all year round agree it is the most accurate estimator of wave ht. It's like the people who think every 28" walleye they catch out on the lake weighs 10lbs; wherein actuality they are 7.5lbs or 8lbs. What is it that they say-numbers never lie? And I'm not categorizing you into either of those categories, just stating that many tend to do such. And I would imagine that waves can vary from any given location, or from time A versus time B.

I agree that the buoy does a great job majority of the time. Some days it takes hours to update but overall im glad they have it out there.

I know ...the lowrance depth was undulating 5-6 foot on the scale , and while we were anchored the PCQueen came out for the afternoon trip and was plowing waves that washed their windshield for them. The wind was out of the East and built we came back in around 4:30 and were looking at the tops of waves nearly eye level while down in the trough. I got home and checked the weather buoy and their max wave record was something like 2.3 ?

Video on the buoy website seems to support Ironhed. Looked like great fishing conditions, at least at the buoy site, the entire timeframe you are discussing. just sayin' Granted, it only records video every hour or two so some conditions could be missed.

@rmcmillen....... give it up dude.
You should know there will be those that will doubt your word even when pictures are included.
Some, and I shall remain nameless, love to bust the b@lls of others on these boards. You have opened that door as you have chosen to defend your story each and everytime, a new thread has been posted. For all you know, you may have peed in the Post Toastees of the very people responsible for the accuracy of said bouy.
Well look at the time; lunch time and then, it's off to bingo!!
Now cast off and go enjoy catching some fish.

Been so long I almost forgot my password to get into his circus. I KNOW no one missed me but here I am... You gotta be a lil' bent to fit in around here sometimes. Glad to see the bickering is still happening its entertaining to some of us. I do read this fourm for fun,education,and a way to avoid work in no particular order. And if I can add something helpful to the mess I try. The waves were between 2-6 feet end of story...WCW

If the waves are bigger than 4ft, don't they put out a small craft warning?
