laurel mt. lake

While on a recon. mission this week-end I came a ccross a body of water in a PF&BC access area that I forgot the name of. According to a local it has Trout & Bass etc. in it.It is not on my waterway access map,but the map is an older one. I have been unable to contact anyone from the Somerset office so I thought someone here would know the name of it. It is off of rt.31 east at Bakersville, turn at the gas station, head north over the turnpike on the Edie rd. It is on a dirt road I believe.Anyone have any info?  thanks  sam

The only lake I know of out that way is Laurel Hill Creek Lake (not to be confused with Laurel Hill Lake in the park.)  But it is before Bakersville-Edie Road crosses the turnpike.

I drove that road today from Edie to Bakersville but I do not know of any lakes out that way especially after the turnpike bridge heading toward Edie.  For whatever it's worth they were re-paving the road today.  If you have any idea what road it is on let me know and I'll go take a look.

this may be the so called "waterworks" lake which is on the B-E road but WELL before you cross the turnpike.

That would have been my guess also but I've never driven down there to see what it is, but I know my son fished it for trout in the past.  There is a nice sized pond along the Somerset side of the road but it is at a private residence and right on the road. It is also before the turnpike bridge.

there's a fairly large dam and lake there with a nice sized plunge pool below it - both are stocked in the spring with trout - I've never fished there otherwise.

that pond to which you refer is indeed private.

Guys, That sounds like it,I wasn't sure if what side of the pike it was on,I was only there once & wasn't expecting to see a lake, couldn't see it from the road, only saw the PF&BC access sign. When we pulled in I could only see a little of the water & I couldn't see how much shore access there was. There was no one there, but the access looked new.  BTW we took a ride over to Laurel Hill Lake & saw some Trout being taken near the beach. We saw a nice sized bear crossing that Edie road on the way back to Hickory Flats. a guy at the gas station said that there were trout in the lake, but I couldn't find anything on the stocking list. I was not looking for Trout specificaly anyways. Thanks  sam

the lake you're talking about is considered part of laurel hill creek section 2 for trout stocking purposes.  they usually put 3-4 buckets into the lake itself and 3-4 into the plunge pool.

phish, I talked to Rick Lorson who is the head biologist for this area & basically he told me the same thing. I was curious as to why it wasn't listed on my access maps. Thanks for the replies.  sam
