Need to hear from Dime
Apparently a man drowned in town trying to save his boy. No more details that I have heard. No age for either or names yet. Dime please post so we-I know it isn't you. Don't mean to be an alarmist but I lost a friend trying to cross below the Black years back and I freak out every time it happens again.

I looked it up on line. http://www.syracuse.com/n...almon_river.html So, so sad a situation. I would suspect Andy would fare better in the water. I watched him wade across heavy water like it was strolling in to Byrne's Dairy to get a coffee. I hope he never has to test it. Nor anyone else. Enjoy your friends and family this weekend, folks.

Thanks Fichy. The first sketchy report I saw made it seem as if the man had gone in off the RT 11 bridge trying to save his son. Yes people enjoy your family and friends time with them is the most precious gift we can get.

Hey I know the name and it was not Andy, although it was a local resident. I do not know any more details other than what was on line.

Thanks for the concern Bob. The boy is in my sons grade and recreation. Apparently the father had a heart attack after getting his boy to shore. Horrible tragedy to say the least. I drove through town when it happened and saw all of the emergency vehicles. 750 in town above the bridge is no walk in the park without spikes on. Thank god the boy survived but its horrible his father had to go. At the least he died being a hero.
On a brighter note the river has been above average flows, below average temps and kings are in on the east end. I'd say a little less than a month before some shark attacks are reported in the river

My first time on the river in 1990 I went down fishing the tail of the black. My father caught me by the hood of the sweatshirt I was luckily wearing. A korker had fallen off without my father knowing before we went down. The tail of the black is usually the spot when it comes to drownings... Please anybody who fishes the river, wear korkers as they will save your life

Nice to hear from you Andy. Went a couple of years wearing hip boots as opposed to chest waders-yes- the waters were moderate but even with that they kept me fishing the right places instead of standing in them- and from going into places that were dangerous.

My first couple years it was felt bottoms. You kinda slid your feet around and stayed upright most of the time When I went to cleats I quite literally ran around with no concern. Now having aged and lost a lot of strength in my legs its back to timidly sliding around.

Shows your character, Clint. I 'm not so generous of spirit. Considering the original heart wrenching content and honest expressions of concern in this post, it's particularly pathetic to interject sarcasm and arrogance. My continued prayer for that stricken family and hopes for a safe season on the river for all.

Yes, for any that care the poor soul had a heart attack as he was saving his child. we all know most here would jump in to help save a small child. At least he goes out a hero to more than his child ..................

Was up there the past few days fixing Coon damages and doing yard stuff- read the local article about the tragedy. That father was a true hero- when his 6 year old fell in with waters about 750 he went in after him and pushed him to fishermen who assisted downstream in fast water. They said that was the last they saw the father above water-as he pushed his son to them and they grabbed on. Some Fishermen also retrieved dad from the water and tried to revive him with no luck. Although a few were fishing up and down this past few days never saw anyone in the town pool-some things take time.
