Lake Arthur 6/1

Water was 71 degrees today.  Just windy enough to **** you off if you were bobber fishing (like all good people do).  Hit the lake at 7:30 or so and there were already a dozen bass guys out pounding the lake.  By 11 there were about 600 kayaks on the water also and we only had one idiot 15"ish largemouth to show for a morning of fishing.

Side note - I call him an idiot because he 1: ate my shiner on the bottom that was meant for a catfish, or at least something that didn't suck. and 2: because he swallowed my good trokar hook.  I so wanted to gut him like a trout for my $1+ hook but I didn't want to feel like a****later and I released him after cutting the leader.  I'm certain he flipped me off as I let him go.

Managed a mixed bag of panfish and a decent channel cat.  Beautiful day on the water.

Beautiful day indeed. If you weren't fishing in just the right direction the wind was certainly sucky. We managed a small mixed bag of pan fish and a few decent bass. Also a half dozen small wipers. Just started fishing this lake this year and have had a good time each outing. Can't wait to night fish it some and find the big wipers and cats. Boat traffic was insane!

If anyone wants to shoot me a pm on some basic wiper tips, I'd really appreciate it.

Something strange happened Friday, guessing an intense high pressure system, that seemed to have slowed things down on Friday evening and night (but still ok - nothing like a hard cold front).  The water was much more murky on Saturday.  Guessing the surface temp got too warm too fast, sank and mixed up a little?  Couldn't fit another boat on the water on Saturday night.  It looked like an Erie perch pack in a few areas.  Even had a few boats kind enough to fish right off of the popular shore angler spots too.  Got to love the consideration that some folks lack now days.  Erie Southern Circus?  Just kidding, it isn't that bad.  There are definitely more people every year, and seems to be less larger fish.

Basic wiper tip #1, set up some dummy lights in an area you are not fishing to attract the boats.

Thanks... After seeing the crowds yesterday. I think I'm gonna stick to fishing there on weekdays only. That was my first time there on a weekend.

SUPER murky.  There were clear spots but you had to hunt for them.  And most of the backwater/shallows we haunt were scummed over even with all that wind.  It was a weird day on the lake.  Luckily it's going to rain every day this week.  That'll screw the lake up even more.
