Lake Arthur report Sunday 5/11

Happy mother's day.  Lake was a sheet of glass @8am and the water was 60.x degrees.  Water up to 67ish when we left @5pm.  Fished the 422 side of the lake and managed to bang out a decent day.  My first 6 fish I think were... WIPERS.  WTH?  And before you get all "that's awesome" they were all short by about half, and they'd have all been great crappies.  If they were crappies.  Smallest at just over 9" and the biggest topped 13".  I probably missed 3-5 more based on how they freight-train your bobber.  Fun to catch but can't keep em.

Crappies were 1 or 2 per spot early until we hit a patch around 3pm.  Boated 2x 12"ers for the box and a handful in the 9+ range to go with them.  Only 2 perch today, they must've been somewhere else or not eating.  If you went too shallow the LMBs were thick.  I caught 3 or 4 that were 14+ and had a couple bigger ones spit the hook.  Stupid bass.  Something ate one of my baby bluegills and ran a bunch of line off but spit him.  :(  We also boated what I think was a huge bullhead, but might just be some weird spotted channel cat.  I'll snap a couple pics of him later and post them up with the big crappies.

Overall a great day on the lake.  Not many boats out until later (thanks moms!) which was a bonus.

Scrape-y teeth, not pokey.  So catfish of some variety.  Pics:

Nice eating sized channel... looks like you released him though.  OMNOMSAMMICH!  :)  Still, nice catch.  Waiting for our first channel of the year.

Lots and lots of crappies along shoreline brush in the Muddy Creek arm for my son and I Monday evening in a little over an hour.  Fish on nearly every cast, but lots of dinks.  And lots of retying jig heads when you're fishing with a 10 year old wading and casting towards brush

Only a few 8-9 inchers.  Pretty new to fishing Arthur and have mostly been skunked there so it was nice to finally have a somewhat productive outing.
