May 4/5/6

Got in bout 330 PM on Sunday and saw the flow report of 700 I had read was BS- looked at least twice that and still a bit murky. 41 degrees and a slow drizzle-dampness cut right through ya lol
 Monday yard stuff  in AM and a nice sunny day in the 50s -the bugs came out with the sun, all work no play.
 Tuesday AM- went to the main River and not the tribs despite the flows---- FISH ON- very few bugs after a cool night and still very high murky waters. Saw  fish everywhere I went mid river to upper- some moving up and a number of drops- Spawners too.
Was VERY pleasantly surprised at the number of fish this trip and last after what I perceived as a slow Steel start this past Fall.
 Was gonna stay another day but after a release and seeing one porpoise clear outa the water and splash back in a minute later - wellll - it aint getting any  better that that-bugged out this PM being quite satisfied.
 Used the 8wt switch and 12lb leader on the river because of the conditions. The 12 got a workout.
 Season over till August.--or some Summer smallies.
Still many fish IMHO, but hard conditions-had the water been lower  likely woulda stayed till tomorrow night.
 VERY few fishermen in the high flows and the fish are picky but are slamming when they choose- others sit there watch watch your fly go by time after time- don't even move.
 Great trip - memorable fishes.

OOOOOPPs -almost went there -had NO idea about the weight thing- thanks- for me and every one else reading who had no idea and wont admit it- lol.
 After nice males last time Clint this time was smaller females - oh well- sure beats those years where pretty much even seeing one on a trip was a big deal-they are baaaaack.
 Stayed with big bugs with sparkle - none of the stockies on-dont know if it was the size or if they moved on down.
 Good job NY with the past few years returns of Steel.

Its a real added plus BB to go up this time of year and not have to deal with gnasty gnats-likely first time ever had that happen  after mid April.
Have even resorted to a bug masked hat and gloves  in the past.  Think they eat repellent.
Likely wont get back up for a few weeks but wouldn't be surprised to find a late Steel this season right up till June unless a real hot spell happens.
Heck- have seen this kinda action in early April in some past years and then Gonzo by the end of a hot month- cept for a couple here or there.
 Wish the Hos would bounce back like the Steel have- likely not in my lifetime-specially with the lake report as I interpreted it.
 CoHo have really declined IMHO from a few short years ago-I blame the low hot Sept / Oct flows lately- nobodys fault. 
Recall the year Andy had our get together an his brother and others came back from DSR with stories of an early unexpected huge run of nice Hos- they were in all season then too. Dead ones right through Feb that year up in the Zone.
  Startin to sound like an old retired phart tellin old stories.

A couple of days ago  the top was loaded with fish- just lousy conditions from shore trying to get at them in the high murky water.
Fish were still coming in a bit-some spawning and some dropping back. Steel splashing and jumping all over- saw many surface at Ellis and most every place I went.
Its later than normal IMHO-- but nice.
 Usually this is the time to be low for dropping fish as they would generally be pretty much finished up top- ma nature appears to have  changed that a bit this time around.
 Heck - recall posts in past seasons about 'even finding a  Steel here and there' into May--  lol.
   Gotta wonder if some  of those DSR fish are still  late fresh ones or all drops ??
 After looking at the 10 day it may well happen that 'its over' pretty soon- especially if the water drops on the warm spell.
