Ready to Scratch the Smallie Itch

Lake Anna Virginia 4/25/14   6lb.14oz.

Itchin' to start scratchin' !   Leaving for PIB this coming Sunday night on for our first trip up for finned footballs.  Looks like the water temp in the main lake towards the cribs is in the mid 40's.  Anyone know if our bronze friends have started migrating into the Bay or what the current water temp is inside the spit?  Light southernly winds and tight lines to you all !

Water in the bay has been hovering around 50. No one home yet. seems to be a week to 2 weeks behind.  You may find them deeper but the usual depth they aren't there yet as of this weekend. This weekend may progress things if it truly gets in the 60-70 range but the cold nights haven't helped.

Fishing is one jerk waiting for another on the other end.

Thanks for the reply and Bay temp.  We'll find 'em and let you know how we did when we return home on the 18th.

Can anyone give a report on smallie fishing? Bay, lake, creeks. I'm coming up next weekend and will start by fishing the piers. We always kill them off the piers memorial day weekend. I would also like to get around and try a few new spots and tactics. Also are the walleye biting from shore at all? Any reports or info is greatly appreciated. Fish On!

Smallie fishing is getting really good in the bay and the lake.  Lot's of fish shallow and easy to catch.  Haven't heard anything about the walleye's, but my buddy has been catching bass from shore pretty well.  Help this helps ChromeBandit412!

You'll do fine.  Just be safe it can get rough out there.  Lot's of fish spawn around the harbors and such so that's never a bad place to look.  Just make sure there aren't any signs that say No Fishing or whatever.  The big flats on the Peninsula Side are also great spawning areas so I would check those out too.  Good luck!

The PFBC has always encouraged boaters to check weather conditions before planning to go boating — especially on Lake Erie. Now, thanks to a [font="arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt"]new buoy, it’s easier to do. [font="arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt"]The Regional Science Consortium in Erie received a grant from the Great Lakes Observing Systems for a weather, water, and wave buoy system. This system was deployed five miles off the mainland in 50 feet of water and collects weather, water, and wave data. The buoy is also outfitted with a video camera. V[font="arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt"]ideo[font="arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt"] clips of current Lake Erie conditions are collected and sent to the Regional Science Consortium website[font="arial,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt"] every hour.
