Anchor for Yough?

I have a 16ft aluminum mod v. What size and type anchor wilm hold in Smithon and West Newton areas?

    When in doubt, the danforth is the default anchor style. They will tell you either on the anchor itself, or where you are ordering, the size of the boat the anchor will handle. Use at least 5 foot chain, shackled to the anchor. Attached the rope (aka rode) to the other end of the chain. 3/8" should be about right. When you anchor, it is important to use the right scope. Scope is the ratio of anchor line to depth. Should be 5 to 7  ft of anchor line per foot of depth. So if you're in 10 ft of water, you'll want to leave out 50 to 70 ft of rode. If you're boating on the river, it's a good idea to have a backup anchor. If your engine were to quit working, your anchor is your emergency brake. And with two, you can actually anchor walk to shore. Or so they say. Been fortunate enough that I never had to resort to that approach. 
     
    Anchors do not need to be heavy to be effective. I had an aluminum guardian anchor on my Erie boats. It all comes down to how you deploy it.
