Turtle creek

How was the fishing on turtle creek this weekend ? Did they stock good numbers of fish? Are the spead out through the creek or are they just in the deep holes?

Just beware of nesting geese at the corner of the creek down from the bridge near the big truck depot on Forbes...I went this afternoon and tried to get to my favourite spot and was attacked by a pair virtually without warning as I was stuck in the middle of the creek where there is no track...

That's funny, the same thing happened to me last year in the same area. They were nested on the island, my buddy went to the right I went to the left and one of them shot out and would've hit me if I didn't dodge him. A 4wt is no match for a p!ssed off goose.

Monday fished Saunders, today fished Forbes area. It appears that they put quite a few in and they are spread out fairly well. Caught browns and rainbows.

i was there for the stocking. yea they put alot of fish in and yea they spread out. that stream gets hit hard by the meat hounds, many kids leaving with stringers full. its a good spot close to home but the fishing is only good for the first couple weeks.

I think the pfbc Just puts in whatever they have. Discrepancies in the stocking list have become a normal thing when it comes to what species They're stocking. At least the past few years.

Apex predator fail.  You are a human, and they are birds.  The simplest of tools would do in that situation... a nice stick?  A rock?  AR15?  Just saying.  Geese can suck it, and as long as I'm still the AP, I'm not about to get pecked.

Why dont you try it then Zelie...I tried a nice stick and a rock....made it much worse...these creatures are fearless and full grown and heavy....and manic when nest is near!!!! Quote from one of MANY warnings:

"Goose attacks on humans have caused serious physical injury, such as broken bones, head injuries, and emotional distress, many occurring when the person tried to avoid an attack and tripped. When fed by people, geese lose their natural fear which often leads to more violent attacks during the spring nesting season, because they will begin nesting closer to areas that people frequent. If the goose approaches you aggressively, hissing or spreading its wings, you should slowly back away watching carefully for obstacles you could trip over. DO NOT, EVER yell, kick, or act hostile in any way. At the same time, never cower, hide your face, turn your back, or run. Over aggression may cause the female to join in, creating an even more aggressive attack from the male. If one flies up towards your face, then duck or move away at a 90 degree angle to the direction of flight, but be sure to keep facing the attacking goose.".....

**** dude.  That's the kind of warning you'd think to see for a BEAR.  I've had geese get saucy with me around Lake Arthur during nesting season but none that were willing to actually throw down.  There are nesting pairs in the field behind my new house (this is our first spring here).  If they come on our property they will either be humble as birds should, or they will know my wrath.  I'll post pictures if anything worth reporting happens.

DNJ500  Dennis, I think that you would run afoul(pun intended) of the law if you harmed those geese espec. if you knew they were there. Seems like a can of pepper spray is in order.  sam

that's correct!  frequently brookies get mixed in by accident.  up at laurel hill creek this year the two stockings in section 4 had to be 20% brookies when there are supposed to be none.  keeping a million trout organized is a challenge - like herding cats.
by the way, I have caught trout well into the summer in TC - mainly by accident while fishing for chubs for bait.

Goose blasted out of the bush at me, no time to do anything but duck.  Still went by the nest and again on the return trip (he gave me an earful the second time around).  I see no reason to kill it.

Caught a tiger there last week.  Caught 5 trout during the last two days of Feb this year, all on a muddy buddy.

I was wondering the same thing bandit, there are some deep holes if you wonder around enough but those cricks sure do get hot in the summer. Maybe they stocked early this year!

I've caught them in normal trout spots into July the past couple years. But, never tried in early spring to see if they're actually holding over. The water in the creek has looked visually cleaner the past few years than I remember in the past. Maybe more homes upstream are tapping into the sewer system and cleaning the water some?

Can't personally vouch for Turtle Crick, but there is a creek/drainage ditch near me that gets two spring stockings where trout can be caught well into the winter months in deeper holes under bridges and in shady spots.

The five i caught this february were all between Sanders Sta Road. and the first fallen tree. We've caught them in the fall near/ past the overturned truck. All rainbows with good color, had been eating good.

Fished there today from 4 to 5 pm. Nothing. Saw two swimming within 10 ft of me though so I know they're still in there. Picked up 6 in 2 1/2 hrs in the same spot two weeks ago. Water seemed a little low today. Looked nice actually.
