Looks like another April I will not be fishing the SR. Been making great strides on the apartment the last week and 1/2 . Tomorrow will be the maiden voyage with power boats on the mighty Hudson . If ocean runs are around then I'm here to stay ..

Nice of them to wait for the weekend to let it go! There should be other spots around though. Enjoy the rockfish, HT! Our turn to be envious when the chrome go back to the lake and all we have is little stream trout and bugs. L13

How long ago was it when we were talking about how the reservoir must of been empty...2 weeks ago??? Everything started blowing about that long ago... of course Brookfield is behind the 8 ball once again... they should've been running some good water a week before they started it... this blow out is now gonnna shorten what couldve been an extended steelhead season...

Bob, larger tug hill drainage basins to the north and south of the salmon river are all running hard with show melt... 75 tomorrow will do even more damage... I'd say no less than 1500/2000 by thursday... I just hope they don't suck it dry
I've got some #9 rapalas I'm gonna try pulling this week in the afternoons with 20 pound test :)

Andy I almost was going to try there if it is where I am thinking............ I spent yesterday fixing the siding on my house from the winter run through by my dad. Today was spent raking the lawn and picking up dog crap. Got alot of machinery ready for the farm work. Manure needs to be drawn and gardens plowed as soon as it is dry enough to drive on the fields. I had to set the points on the IH 200 as it was running a bit rough, really want to go with electric ignition on it. Snow blower off the 555 and set in the back lot, lawn mower up and running, 4 wheeler up and running and the plow is off the farm truck. I also reparged a few spots on the chimney that had flaked off this winter. Man I did alot

From what I heard there is not a ton of snow left up there, not saying it is gone, but going fast. I think it will 1200 to 1800 by mid week then 500 next week. This is of course baring significant rain, ground is soaked so it wall all run off. I was looking forward to fishing well into May. now lets see. I hope they do not get flushed back down

Great pics Clint. It appears that the reservoir is perhaps 90% of capacity. Surprised that they would be dumping that much water with that much room to spare.

I'm guessing the forecast of 80s and some rain scared them which is a good thing. Would have been better if they bumped it to 2 grand a week earlier. All in all better safe than sorry. Sucks to be me with things winding down here and me wanting to put off the off season shakes for another week. 5 to 750 would have been nice if it had stabilized for a couple days.

Just go 1/2 mile upstream, or try Eyre, or Russo's. Unless you've been catching kelts for the last two weeks, they are still up there. I've seen snow like that in Redfield and they were still looking at 6 feet in the woods back in Little John. Based on the 18 feet + on the ground in some parts of the Central Tug, at peak, I'd say you could still have a fair bit of water to come up there, and it is just lucky the rain has been holding off, L13

Ya but I don't like that water as much. Plus fishing over skittish fish isn't my thing. The blood flows at the time of the big bang not during the fight that ensues Maybe its time to check the ponds for perch.

Well they raised it to 8k, the fish will probably get flushed back to the lake. Am I correct thinking that these fish like to spawn in the mid 40's for temp. If that is the case the river is only 38. Will they stick around or drop eggs early and get flushed back. Just wondering

So with only 5500 coming in and 8k over the dam they are lowering the res. Pineville shows 8400 so not much run off is local.

Spawning commences in the mid 40's, but they will keep going once they start, even if it gets colder. When the flow gets up there, there may be spots on the bottom that are still sheltered enough for them. Suffice it to say that the species did OK before hatcheries in their native range, and some of those rivers make the SR look like a short ditch. And, late as it is, there could still be freshies after this goes down, I know people that have caught bright finger lakes spawners in June. L13

From what I have seen and read (I take the temp sometimes) water has not got above 40. Granted I did not take any temp dung the 80 degree weather , but that water was fooking cold the Friday before the the big raise. With water not yet to 40 and the vast majority of water coming from very cold snow pack have the majority of fish started to spawn or will they wait? I know the hatchery has taken eggs so they are loose.
