Local Bait shops

as seeing I moved away from this area for a bit, the 2 bait shops I used to frequent closed, where do you buy bait in this part of PA?

Shadlure is a great place for that area. If going anywhere near Mt. Pleasant, the little bait shop that used to be a gas station on the left along 31 just after Bridgeport Rd. is also a great place. Its hard to beat the little mom and pop places. I picked up a Pfleuger reel today and was shocked that the price included spooling it for free. Not something I am used to today.

B&M Live Bait and tackle in Everson right outside of Scottdale. Usually has bait all year round and various sizes of minnows. It's an auto repair shop about a mile off 119. Phone 724-887-5638.

A buddy of mine who doesn't fish a whole lot was going to the beach and wanted to buy a surf rod and some saltwater stuff before he got down there.  He asked me to go with him to that place so I could make sure he gets what he needs. When I first walked in I was impressed, the selection was decent and I had high hopes.  My buddy asked one of the guys working there for some help picking out what he needed.....I just stayed quiet to see if these dudes knew their stuff or not.  This guy tried to sell my buddy every little thing he possibly could. At times he would just take stuff off the shelve, say 'you need this too' and put it in his basket.... I was just laughing to myself the whole time listening to this joker rattle off whatever popped into his head to sell a few extra bucks in old, dust covered gear.  The thing that really got me was when I walked passed the counter and an older gentleman said something like "so, you are going to the ocean, I have an awesome ocean rod here that is perfect for you"  It was some cheap spin-cast combo that I wouldn't pay $1 for at a yard sale to use for blue gill let alone take to the salt. I thought this guy was joking around with me so I said something sarcastically back to him...then it became clear he was as serious as can be.  He continued to convince me to pay way to much for a piece of junk I didn't need until I finally walked away...

I get that some shops might be struggling and need to make their next sale....but when you obviously try to take advantage of people who are looking for a little direction that is bad business IMO I have visited plenty of small shops all over pa,oh,ny and never had anyone try to push so much crap on me.

I've heard some horror stories from people regarding their reel repair too.

Do a search for tackle unlimited on here and you'll see why not to go there

It's been 3 or 4 years since I've been there, I used to have them clean all my tournament reels and they always did a good job, but I have been cleaning my own since then..   That's good info to know

B&G Bait and Tackle in Normalville.  It's a bit out of the way for me but it's a great shop with a very good selection.  They always have bait unlike the big box stores.

Island Firearms on Neville Island. Basically a bait place for minnows, night crawlers, etc. They have limited tackle also. Not much in the way of rods/reels. They'll also spool line on your reel for you.

wow. Created an account and bumped a 2 yr old thread just to post that? LOOK AT YOUR CRAWLERS BEFORE YOU BUY THEM. Easy enough to do.

Never said I didn't want them. Catfish love them. By the way, I don't open a milk container to small if it's spoiled. I don't check condemns for holes; I don't open a pack a meat....and so on and so on. I relay on the operation to be professional nit sloppy. Moreover, when is it inappropriate to "bump" a thread? What is the time limit? i don't want to break any rules.

I've had that rotting night crawler thing before.  I definitely check crawlers before leaving a store, especially can-a-bait type.  Although, those things are hard to put back together.

It's more about the odor. Mush them up with anything to make a past and then place in old nylon stocking. Some use a blender....not the one used for the house. Rap it around the hook of treble and secure with a bread tie. The problem.........get that smell off your hands. I do but it takes an effort

I had a bad experience with Tackle Unlimited. I had a friend buy me a quantity of worms...I believe it was a 6 dozen container. When He dropped them off, I began to transfer them to worm bedding as I do with all crawlers. It turns out there were only 58ish in there. I put them back and called my friend to ask him if he ever had that issue. He said he never counted them, but he was heading there again the next day and he would take them back. I did get my money back...but my friend informed me that when he told them of the issue, the first and only question they asked was "What did he do, count them!!!". That was my last transaction from them.
