Crappie in SWPA

I would like to take my duck boat out and get on some Crappie. Are there any really good crappie lakes in SWPA? Just looking for something closer than Pymatuning or Presque Isle. Thanks for the help!

Don't know your location but I've heard they're biting at Cross Creek here in Washington Co

    Where are you located?

A friend and I have done pretty well on his boat at Shenango a handful of times the past couple years.  Wasn't too tough to figure out, even for guys like us that don't do much crappie fishing.  About 45 minutes closer to most of SWPA than Pymy.

Lake Arthur near Butler & Crooked Creek near Apollo seem like popular destinations for crappie.

It's been 20+ years since I've fished there but used to do really well on crappies at Donegal Lake.  Have no idea what the crappie population is like there now.

Best time? That depends....my best time is on the ice.
Up until the weeds grow in is good, but their in spawn mode so I let them go.

I've been there (Cross Creek) about five times in the last two weeks shore fishing and got nothing. Every week since ice out I've been saying "next week"......

Only fished there a few times, but it's hard to fish the lake from shore. I mostly remember the crappies being on the small side as well.
