Fish5k... you are missing their sarcasm.  They are basically saying that the more people who buy into the nonsense that pymie has no fish and go somewhere else the better.

FWIW I've heard people say there were no fish in Arthur many times over the years.  They were wrong of course.  I'm not sure how many people realize that these "close" lakes are completely different.  For instance if you are used to fishing the weedbeds in summer in Arthur and go to Shenango to try the same technique you will soon find out that there aren't any weedbeds there to fish.  At least not comparable to Arthur.  Each lake is different, and you need to put some effort into how that affects your fishing if you want to succeed.

I am determined to hit up pymie this year... but that whole driving an hour plus after I pass Arthur really bothers me.  I'm not good enough / persistent enough to wrangle walleyes from Arthur but I think I could probably catch a couple at pymie.  SIGH.

Thank you Flying Fish and Zelie Sam re: informing people Pyme being a dead lake for the purpose of them going somewhere else to fish. Many years ago [ and to this day] I have 6 friends that say the same thing about Pyme and it always cracked me up. I did miss the intended sarcasm and it's primarily my fault as I tend to think in a very linear fashion, taking the meaning of something exactly as it's written/spoken. I don't always miss the point, but probably more often than not.

You're also very correct about lakes close in proximity having very different timetables. One must be aware of the waters they fish in or intend to fish.

Livin Right,
Sorry was out of town for work for a couple and was not on the boards. Stumps by Clark.
Porktown, forgot the fillet kit. Lucky we had that one. Spent the $20 for some cold ones after the filleting was done!

Just out of curiosity [as I won't be able to make it that day], but does anyone know if they are good, quality crankbaits and jigs or junk ones? When I took my family to BassPro 2 years ago for Christmas, they gave my 8 y.o.girl, 10y.o. boy, my wife and I each a four pack Cotton Cordell 1/2oz Super Spots each with a different color.

The walleye results are posted on the lake association webb site. The pan fish league I heard the wining weight was 10-12lbs, sorry I do not remember the exact weight but I am sure it is on their website.  Tightlines

Fished with my buddy this evening from 7 - 9:30.  Only boated one walleye, but it was a 26" pig.  Biggest one i've ever caught.  14 channel cats ranging from 3 - 20", few crappie and dink perch, and one shellcracker to go with it.  Lots of action and a great evening to be out.

I was up to pymo fishing a bass tourn over the weekend and seen 2 boats that were bow hunting for carp.  What bothered us were that these guys were shooting the carp and then just putting them back into the lake, we seen several fish floating after they left.  This doesn't seem right, I feel they should have to do something with the fish is there a law about this ??

So... you were targeting bass that are still on their spawning beds, but you are angry that other guys are shooting overpopulated garbage fish that have no predators and that pretty much nobody fishes for?  Not sure I follow that one.  There already is a law, it says "you can shoot carp.  all you want."  They were following it.

Now if those were stingrays they were tossing back dead, I'd be with you.  Those are delicious.  Carp... not so much.

Well for your info the bass are done spawning, just the bluegills are on the beds,  we don't kill what we catch unlike the pan fish guys and of course you would never take them off the beds .  I don't care if they shoot carp but they should do something with them  not just toss them in the lake to rot

Super Bassman.... just three questions?
The spawn is just over and the bass are in a weakened state.
How much stress did you put on those bass ?  Did you play them till they came in on their side?  Were any bass hooked deep?
Think about it before you say...."we don't kill what we catch."
I've seen legal sized bass floating belly up after a tournament.

For the record, I don't really care if they have tourneys during the spawn or whenever.  LMBs are garbage fish to me, thought they do have their place in the grand scheme of things.  Bass guys have always come off as slightly snooty to me.  While I've had some bad interactions with bass guys acting like they own the lake, I've also had some super polite bass guys that evened things out.

As for the carp, think of them like groundhogs.  Lots of people shoot them for sport, and though they are edible very few people eat them.  I don't lose sleep over dead groundhogs or carp.

There's also a law that says you have to dispose of the fish properly , not back into the water.

Can you link or post up this law you understand?  Because I did a fair bit of searching for it and found nothing.  To be fair, I didn't read the PA regs cover to cover (yet).  I'm a huge no-litter guy, but throwing a carcass back where it came from is NOT littering.  Plenty of things around that will take a free meal.  Last fish I killed removing a hook on Arthur floated for about 3 minutes until a crow spotted it.

Thanks FishinGuy.  It was right there under my nose.  But still... that's terribly vague.  How does one "lawfully dispose" a fish?  You'd think they'd spell that out.

Yeah, definitely vague. But, if your not allowed to throw fish guts in the water, you probably can't dispose of whole fish either.

Dumb law.  Sort of like the baitfish/fishbait law that says you can only have 50 minnows per person, and if you are in a group each guy has to have his 50 in its own bucket.  When have you EVER cared about that BS?  And no warden has ever checked a bait bucket that I've ever heard of.  Still there's a law for it.

Re: Let's Talk Pymatuning 2014/06/11 18:11:07 (permalink)
Personally, I've never required more than 3 dozen minnows. That wasn't intended to be bragging, so please, nobody take it that way. For those lakes that allow a 50 crappie limit, I still have 3 dozen minnows because personally, I would get tired of filleting after 36 fish, lol! I'm also not saying I catch/land a fish with every single minnow, so don't read into this and imply a different meaning of what's written. As transcribed before, this can be a difficult mode of communication as non-verbal cues, gestures, body language, tonal inflection etc... aren't observable and the intended message is misunderstood. This wasn't directed at anyone in particular either.

I would defiantly tie on some worm harnesses to try and locate a few. Then jig the area. I'm sure you won't wanna waste time in an unproductive area.

Fished the lake this morning for eyes and nothing.   Did catch crappies jigging for eyes.  But the biggest thing is the gills were every where.  The big bulls were hungry as anything.  If I would have had an ultra light rig with me a hundred would have been easy.  Going to go back tomorrow and do some c& r.   They were roaming in large schools on the humps.

Most vague laws are there to stop the excess law breakers. Sure cleaning one or two fish and tossing back the remains would cause no problem. Had you fished Trout Run ( Erie ) back in the 80's and seen what went on you might understand some laws. The shore line was covered with fish guts and carcases to the point you could hardly stand to fish. It was legal to clean your fish along the shores in those days and most did. It was totally out of control with smell and contamination.
