Its bit ICY out there....

Those of you thinking about making a trip to fish the creeks might want to look at these pics there is some serious ice along the streams.
There were chunks floating til noon too but then they cleared.
Some spots are tough to get to where you waked before might be jammed up with ice.
Personally I enjoyed the different scenery on a familiar stretch of Big Deer Creek.
Caught plenty of fish and saw very few people out today it was nice to get out and enjoy!
And yes I used bait -eggs sacs and I do not regret it.

Better have studs installed on your Vibram or other rubber-bottom wading boots if you plan to challenge the tribs this time of year.  In fact, it's not a bad idea to use them any time, any season, anywhere you fish or hike in to fish.

#4, 1/4 inch, hexagonal sheet metal screws from any hardware store will do fine and can easily and inexpensively be replaced. They are wide and have a low profile. Follow the placement pattern suggested by the boot manufacturer. Generally speaking, fewer studs are more effective rather than covering the sole with too many - unless you enjoy the thrill of dangerously sliding down large, dry rocks.

    Tight lines and happy feet!

I have been using them for years.
They are great on rocks even the slimy ones.
Try them out asap you'll like em.
I use them year round no matter where I wade and really never slip.

// how are they on rocks? //

Soft rubber soles with well-placed studs will take you anywhere you want to go. Submerged rocks of all sizes are easily defeated. Slippery, flat slate bottoms - no problem.

Better yet, getting out of the water, you can climb up steep banks like a mountain goat. Loose, deep sand on an incline may pose a problem but it's seldom encountered.

If you're fishing from a boat, you will slip and slide on the floor of the boat. But some well-placed pieces of indoor/outdoor carpet will solve the problem.

Old style lace on Korkers. Best thing going. Way better than felt. New style hex head ice sandals, pretty good too. You want studs of some sort for the tribs, especially late in season when rocks, gravel may be glazed with ice.

And packed up 10 feet deep at the access. The creek made a new path through the small boat ramp into the marina.

I went out yesterday and tried to fish......
Lotsa ice piled up with anchor ice and chunks flowing thru.
Just getting to some spots was an adventure.
It was cold tough day went 6 for 8 in 6 hours of fishing.
At least I got out and enjoyed the scenery.
When we have the next thaw ice jams will be EPIC!
