I have all kinds and the various types all have their + and _'s. The best wood board ones I have are the beaver dam's. The round plastics that cover the holes are nice in cold cold weather, as they keep holes from freezing. The magnetic tipups would be the greatest however they are mostly made cheap and break easily. The no longer made Worth Magnetics were great and sturdy. If you use tipups that are low to the ice place upright markers beside them. I have seen days when a half hour wind on a snowy lake makes them all disappear, especially at dark. I cut 1/2" PVC pipe in 18" lengths and painted them bright green.
Eman: Those board tipups work well until you fish in super cold or wind blowing days. Then the unprotected hole freezes and the tipups freeze in, or the snow covers them and the flag will not even trip.
