was going to hit a trout lake today but decided to take a rest to dry and ready my gear for Lakerland tomorrow.. Even though today might be a balmy no wind great time out there , 2 days of brutal conditions require such things .. Perch were fun, even better when we are catching nice ones and throwing tons of egg laden females back.. Tonight will be a surf and turf dinner, beer battered Perch & Venison.. Cant wait :) Here are just a few shots from the Polar Vortex Yesterday: Lets hope we get some Steel Slimmers tomorrow :)

Thanks for your posts on Ice Shanty, Clint. As a result, I know there is enough ice for a Mad River Club derby next weekend, and if the weather and the car are behaving, I may get up and get workday credit. I've posted a couple of ice safety tips on the Irondequoit Bay, but the moderator for that site is descended from God directly and deletes freely, so they don't stay up long! Good to see the rigs are working, it has to be more fun than frozen line Tenkara would be on the SR with this prolonged sub zero. L13

Thanks for a great day, bro. Always fun to fish with you, I'll be out again soon. I had a beautiful ride home on the back farm roads. A great sunset was a good way to end the day.

While it's not quite the same.. To me it's cold steel (trout) on ice.. Brutal conditions for sure but at least we Iced one for the record books.. Xs 2 on the ride home. I followed the back way along the Hudson to my house and had dreams of stripers.. We got some more Slimmers to I ce first though.. Thanks for sharing the day Charlie..

Sad news about the loss of one of the Hudson's best friends, Pete Seeger. Every time you catch a striper or see a sturgeon roll, remember Pete and his Clearwater, proof that a few determined people can turn the tides on environmental degradation and effect some good change in the world! RIP, Pete. L13

L13,it seems that Pete Seeger had a connection to a Allentown native by the name of Jim Musselman that has Appleseed Records that many of Seegers music was recorded on by many artists,Springsteen being one of them. There is a great article on Seeger and his journey through life in the local paper this morning.

I've had the privilege of hearing Pete right in my living room. We have a cherished photo of it. Nancy did much volunteer work when she was young and was friends with Pete. One of the true iconic legends of American music. His legacy goes far beyond the banks of the Hudson and his influence on society will be carried on by all that loved him and what he stood for. Without him and Woody, life as we know it would be much different. I thought Obama in his SOTU blather would have made a mention of his passing, but as far as what I heard, he didn't. It's probably quantitatively provable that Pete Seeger did more POSITIVE good for this country singing, then POTUS has done with ,well...... his oratory. Change my AZZ!

Someone else mentioned Sturgeon and stripers and the Hudson, none of which have anything to do with ice. I am not the first person guilty of getting off track on a post here, but some of us have short memories, or are more entitled to blather. L13

Sorry mine are all tyed into cool flyes by wrapping them in black xmas tree garlands. Works great for jigging rustbows or slimers. You just have to jig harder for 80 foot deep slimers.

Jack, First off Thank You.. Going to be great with no wind and warmer temps.. I'm sure lots of outside jigging will take place over tons of food.. This weekend will be shared with many friends on various hard waters.. Work - Job ? well I was rotating into the weekends off in feb but I took a vac day every sat in Jan, just for the ice baby.. Work-Job however is a sore subject in its self.. Lets Just say, I can't wait to hit the hard water in 10 hrs until tues :) Have an enjoyable weekend to all, Thanks again Jack !!!
