12/29/13

Well I had to run up to town so I decided to take my pole up.
Fished way up high.   It was as usual the folks in the "right"  places consistently hooked up and the others had the others had to work hard for what they got.  I was in the other category since I got there at 10:00.   I had a quick on and off and lost one right at my net.     I had it almost in the net twice  and I got impatient and made the huge mistake of reeling the leader into the guides to get it closer to the net.   The fish had one more run in her and snapper the leader.   Ohh well,   a fine end to my 2013 fishing adventures.

Close enough, Clint.   Glad you got some to play with. If a nice steel is the last fish for 2013 , wasn't a bad end.   Try your new cam yet?

I have not other than a few pics of the dog.  It only has provisions for handlebar and hard helmet mount so I have to figure out a way to get it on my head and have it aimed right.

If its a gopro, there is a head band accessory you can buy- that's what I used this past october to film fighting some chrome and mud sharks with a few of my buds.

Not a go pro cheaper version from Sears from the in laws.  Just wanted a cheap "water proof "  camera and they got me this.   To afraid to take anything nice near the water, because nothing is truly water proof from what I read unless you go real high $  and I need other stuff.

Clint i'll keep it brief as I'd hate to come off as an expert of expertise or spoil your good memories... ;)

But thanks for the honest report. Honestly, your neutral attitude and honest reports and thoughts really kelp this place alive.

Nick the snow pack is not bad at all.   This warmer weather  has really  knocked  it down good and the stuff left is harder so you don't sink much. .  Should not be hard walking unless we get some more snow (which we are supposed to)  this week.

Gotcha Clint, I remember my buddy was like why don't we buy two or three gopros and start filming for a youtube series (mudsharks, chrome, and bronzebacks....; maybe throw in a few videos of goose hunting and archery for whitetail), etc...  I told him what do I look like I'm made of money.  I have to say if its modeled after the gopro it will be durable.  We had that thing dunked filming salmon under fallen trees (not hooked obviously) to filming me fighting a salmon probably what was the best was watching my buddy put the camera under the water and then watching the video post release. Specifically, the best part was the salmon slamming into the camera.....  Also had a friend wear it during a hockey game.  He was driving to the net and took a puck right off the camera.  Sucker held up....  The only thing I didn't like was when you choose to take photos instead of video if you forget to wipe the lens off you get some interesting photos (see attached).

Anyhow good luck with the camera, anyone going up this Saturday?  Thinking I need to scratch the itch but Friday's low is -8 and a high of <20 on Saturday could be interesting.  Given I've never gone up this late in the year will I need to worry about slush or ice shelfs mid-river on up...?  I know some of the other areas/places I fish will be solid ice as proof from my trip the end of November/beginning of December.  Lastly anyone know the projected flows for this weekend?

Machine, flows should be the same for a little while. Plenty of water in the ground right now. I would assume a 500 flow for the next few days . Don't worry about shelf ice or slush above 2a for most part... definitely no slush above pineville! I'd say go for it bud

Right now projected flows are 500 through Monday.  I am not thinking it will increase with the cold weather coming.   The farther down low  the more slush.  Ice may start to form as it is going to get COLD, but temps look good for this weekend.   I have to work Saturday, but Sunday I am planning on hitting some ice somewhere for sure.   For me I prefer walking on water than walking in water over the winter, but I usually hit it up a few times, then start again  in March.

Thanks dime I'm thinking of doing a suicide run leave 400 am be home by 7 pm or well should I say my in-laws.  I wouldn't do a 5 hour one-way suicide run.  Too much driving for me.  Am I missing something I don't see a ton of snow in the forecast (knock on wood) would the LE be bad and just not captured on wunderground.

Well that's better than early December when I was fishing 1200.  Probably will look way different.

Lake effect is usually not predicted very well.  Just look for East winds and cold air and there they are.   Not alot predicted according to out local weather as of yet.

    Local forecast
Lake effect snow sets up east of Lake Ontario by Monday morning, dropping through Syracuse in the early afternoon before dissipating. Only an inch or two of accumulation is expected from this.

Monday’s temperatures will decline throughout the day, with the early morning starting off in the mid 20s while much of the afternoon will be spent in the teens. The chillier air will allow for limited lake effect snow showers to develop, but high pressure on Monday should cut this off fairly quickly. Otherwise, Monday will be rather blustery, making the temperatures feel more like single digits to near zero.

Looking out farther ahead, we’re anticipating a weak system to bring scattered snow showers during the daytime on New Year’s Eve. Temperatures will be very cold into the New Year, with highs only topping out in the teens. We’ll watch as a system could bring several inches of snow on Wednesday evening through Thursday.
