Well he is doing alot better this AM with some of the swelling gone and the breathing is a bit better.   I think this medication switch may get him a few more days.  At least for the moment I can tell he is in good spirits and not suffering that much.   We will see what tomorrow brings.

This is the major thing... I am sorry for what you are dealing with, each person's relationship with their animal is unique, but many of us can understand how difficult this time is for you. There is no right way to deal with it, or easy way to deal with it... there is just the way that works for you and him.  You will know...

Great news clint.
As long as he is still coming to greet you and wants to do things it is all good.
You will see in his eyes and the way his routine changes.
When it becomes to hard for him to be with you even though still wants to be and still gets joy when he is.

Thanks for the kind words and understanding. I will investigate the tips fro Fisherlady.  The dog is on pain meds and muscle relaxants, but has not urinated in 24 hours now, and I'm worried that too much time has gone by.

Again L,  best wishes and deep heat to you. He seems to be doing OK this PM still swollen and some snorts when breathing, but nothing like yesterday

Thanks Clint, and the same heat to you.  This hurts as bad as having a sick kid, maybe worse, the dog never talked back (although the kids never ate shoes).

Vet says keep giving her the meds, we've got her peeing, and when I took her out this AM there were a few tail wags, so she is not totally paralyzed.  Odds are not good for a rompy little dog, but the vet says they can live like this, they even make little carts for them if they can't get  the rear legs going again,(maybe a modified smitty for winter, LOLTKFC).  Have not found any chiro's for dogs yet, but we've got calls into a couple of other places.  No one is pushing the surgery hard (3 Vets spoken with), but they both say there is still a chance if we can keep her down for a while, and she is readily taking the meds now.  8 more days on the first prescription, and they will go longer, and possible stronger, on the muscle relaxants. They are cutting back on pain med to help ease constipation (Dogs can't eat prunes, which is probably a blessing!) One day at a time.

Yes,   promising at the least.

I have made the decision to take him up tomorrow AM.   He has not eat anything in a day.   I cannot even get him to eat hamburger..   He is also having trouble getting around from his AM to PM.   The other dog may have ran into him, as he is limping.  He is also starting to wine alot.    He will spend his last night in front of the fire where he loves to lie.

RIP Blaze
He passed with me next to him on the floor.  I was on the floor all night.   He was fussing alot during the night, and I knew it was close.  Only got about 20 minutes sleep.    I hope he was not in that much pain.   At least he got to go at home with me next to him.............
