Lake Erie Burbot

Anyone have any info worth sharing on the lingcod/Burbot. I know from piers its a very small window just curious as I want to take it off my fresh water catch list. IF you don't want to give away your entire secret on them I understand you can be alittle vague or just PM me.

I think I know the basics but they were from an unreliable source of a fisherman who couldn't catch a cold.

I've tried for em in the Channel in Febuary. Some tough fishin right there. My Father-in-law caught a monster a few years back in that same spot in late January.

I've heard that is the best place to fish for them come Late December through early March. I have a buddy who is a diver-doesn't fish and said the last few years they have been growing in numbers that he has seen on some of the deeper ship wrecks in the lake and seems to think they are feeding on the round goby as well.

You missed it, as did I.  The run in was mid November this year.  Yeah, you can get them going back out, but by that time I'd rather be cozied up in a hut than on the pier.

There has got to be some secret as to where the spawn and can be targeted through the ice. I think that'd be cool. Getting 15-20 tip ups in that area and are sure to hook up. Misery? Horseshoe? Lagoons? Head of bay? I have no idea, but I'm sure its semi shallow and probably weedy.

Tried two years ago in Jan. Used heavy duty perch rigs, ocean pyramid sinkers, dead smelts etc... no bites the night I was out. But my dad did manage to catch his leg on fire from sitting to close to his propane heater. That was kinda funny.........

My son and I used to enjoy Burbot fishing off the South pier. We went around late December early January. Used perch rigs with just enough sinker to hold bottom. Best night we caught five. Used shiners, emeralds, and once cut strips of shad which worked well.
