I'd gladly retire and be his photog but since I would be dead from starvation in no time because of poverty I would be of little use.

We went to see American Idiot the musical at the Landmark Theater in Syracuse tonight. It was a very good show.

Headed to the Hunting & Fishing Expo at Rockland Community College, Suffern , NY in the morning. Plan to keep my hands and money in my pockets but you never know what may catch my eye. May take a look at the fly rods that Jack and others have purchased from Shu-Fly not that I need another rod.

Gerry, they do a fly gig over there now? Its been many years since I went to the Rockland show. I remember it being obsolete of fly gear. I guess the times have changed though.

I started going to the Rockland show since it first started (late 1970's) and while I still enjoy going it is not the same. You're right Drew there used to be a load of fly fishing/tying products available, that is no longer the case. The same holds true for the hunting crowd. Many of the major manufacturers of rifles and rifle accessories are long gone due to the Brady Law in the early 90's. Now the show is predominately outfitters or charter captains with a mix of vendors for mostly salt & bass fishing along with some hunting gear. Gone is the fly casting pool & demo's by the greats like Lefty Kreh and the Rajeff's. I did not see one purveyor of fly tying gear. TU doesn't even go to the show. Finally, the number of attendees is down dramatically. You couldn't go on a Saturday afternoon and expect to move about freely. I was there with my daughter from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and had little or no trouble moving about. I even had time to return to vendors to make a couple of purchases before leaving. Had I not stopped to talk to vendors I had fished with in the past I could have made it around the hall in two hours. I must admit I didn't keep my hands and money in my pocket as I had hoped. I booked a charter for the first weekend in August on the Dream Catcher out of Rochester. I have fished with Capt. Sam Zucco and my daughter has never been (other than striper/blues/fluke fishing) so I figured it would be cool to watch her tussle with a big King. I also purchased a couple of small items for fishing and hunting (treestand needed a replacement mesh seat). The one budget buster was a Shu-Fly rod and reel, couldn't resist. I bought the IM 8 11'0" 8 WT and matching Shu-Fly reel. What the heck, you only live once.

2 good games yesterday 2 blow outs, but a good day with the nephews. Here is a tangent I will get off on. Why the h3ll doe stuff cost so much at events, I mean c'mon $4 for water. $3.50 for pop corn $5 for soda . How does a family of 4 go out and not break the bank. 3 waters, 3 hot dogs, 2 nachos, 3 boxes of popcorn $50. Between gas, tickets to get in and the food I dropped $100 We don't do alot of stuff so I just get surprised how much it cost to go out. AND the check engine light on my car came on on the way out. Stopped at Advance Auto on the way back and they said it was an oxygen sensor. Of course it was the one under the car and the center console had to come out to unplug it. The threads stripped getting it off. I retapped the threads and it tightened up, but I did not reef on it. All done, but the light is still on. May have to either drive it around more, unhook the battery or go get the codes cleared (been meaning to get a scanner anyway). Then hope the guy from Advance had it right and that it was that and not something else causing it to throw that code. The team I am following is playing at Binghamton next Saturday so A stop to the Cortland Fly outlet may be in the works if I go.

I feel ya on concession prices. Anytime I take one of my girls to a hockey game, it's an easy $40., and that's without a beer. Worse than that is when we all go to a swim meet. $3.00 slice of pizza, that costs them like $.80. Bottle of water for $4.00. I can get a whole case for that at the grocery store. We are a family of 5 and never get away with less than an $80 dollar bill when it's all said an done. I'm all for "fund" raising but 300% mark up is a little much doncha think?

Lucky-I have fished with Sam a number of times, indeed a good guy. Jack-I wasn't sure if that was the same rod that you fished with. I looked at both the 10' and 11' 8WT, Skip Storch recommended the 11' for the SR. As you said for the price you can't go wrong. Clint-My alma mater girls team blew a 17 point third quarter lead. Lost the lead for good twenty seconds left. Missed three shots to win it in the last eleven seconds. Ugh!

Yea tb, I used to go to the outdoor shows but it became just as you said so I stopped long ago. I think I might have to invest in one of those shu- fly deals because my son is now hooked. We played with a few today nothing came to shore .My kid learned the term knuckle buster on the first fish. I just mainly spent the day helping and enjoying watching him fish.
P.S. Be careful he is a lurker on fish USA now . Lol

Welcome aboard. The board just bumped up 10%. Now ya got to get pops to take you to the river in the fall. If you fished in these conditions for stale fish and had fun you will explode from excitement when the first double digit hottie takes you for a rise downriver. Hoping to get my son up for a day or two. Hasn't really fished since he hit his teens. 26 now and he mentioned how fun it was when we went to the river when he was 8 or 9.

When fishing the shaft under normal conditions I stand where that bottom snowpac is. Last time it was on top of the upper pac. Right now the anchor ice is gone but it is still low and very clear. Didn't fish as Sat is amature hour there and fishing certainly is not prime. Hope that by Tues there has been enough melt to raise the level.

Got back from the games and Westhill won on overtime to advance to the sate semis which are next Friday. I will be unable to attend that game due to a nerve block earlier that day. I stopped at the Cortland store on the way down and they had alot of line at 50% off. The manager said they will stop producing some of their lines that are not top sellers even though they fill a niche. Included are the Precision Salmon and Steelhead taper that I currently use . I was able to get the last WF9 in the Salmon taper for $35, bought the same line in town last year for around $75. Since I was going to replace next year and use the old line in my back up reel for my nephew it was a no brainer to buy it. If you are looking for materials that place has gone WAY down hill in the last few years, barely anything for tying there.

Well its still low and clear, not as low or clear but the shaft was like looking into an aquarium. Watched a few swim around but never hold. Went across the creek and fished in some faster water where they could feel a bit more hidden. Saw 3 fish attempt the falls. Caught this little guy. Would have tried to get better pic but my friend the Professor was there and ready to release it before I hooked it almost. Sorry tuna its the best I could do. I'll try harder after some lunch. Really not much water to chose from with the pinners monopolizing the parking lot pool Lots of people today with some just looking to get eggs to fish the finger lake opening.
