So do u think they have enough heat output to keep your feet from getting too cold in your waders while fishing in ice water?  For several hours?

Wore them hunting Monday and my feet did not get cold all day while sitting still in a tree stand for 10 hours.  They weren't warm, but they didn't get cold.  Teh air temp was about 30 all day.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Best socks Ive owned. I can give you a link to the lady that makes them by me if yoiu can't find any. Jusy shoot me a PM.
Also for the record, Alpaca meat is by far the best I've had. You can now sell and buy it in PA. The ground meat is excellent. They say its the leanest red meat, even more lean than deer and bison. I love to make alapaca burgers out of it............

it can be spun into yarn, so you could make slippers out of it.

Like the rest of the alpaca "sheep" that read this thread, I went and bought a pair for $25 shipped to my house.  No real noticible difference than my wool socks on my initial test (I think $20 for two pairs).  Only ice skating in some rather limited insulated rental skates.  In about 20 degree weather, I felt my toes getting a little cold.  That said, I was with my 6 year old, so not really moving my feet much, gliding more than skating.  I can only imagine them getting pretty cold in the submerged in 35 degree water for hours drill.  This was with polypropylene liners and alpacas are "survival" thickness.  They felt great in my thinsulate lined hiking boots walking around though.  I didn't rub Old Spice on my feet first.  If I happen to make it out wading, I'll report back.

Deetz, you must be in the awful middle ground of circulation.  Bad enough to get really cold, but still enough that you really feel it.

My feet have such crap circulation that I feel them getting cold, it bothers me for a little while, then I just know they're cold but it doesn't matter.

They stay like that until I get back somewhere inside for an hour or two, then they feel really cold again, then they warm up.

On one hand, it makes hunting & fishing in high 30s/low 40s rough because I'm in the same boat as you...but once it gets below freezing, I can pretty much hunt/fish/ski all day in one layer of athletic socks.  If I'm doing waterfowl (in the water, not moving), I'll do athletic socks and a pair of woolies.

200 bucks for socks is too much for me. It's not "worth the trip."

I'll be fishing elk sun up to sun down from Friday through Sunday. Will be covering all water available and unposted. The "big dogs" fish in any weather including snow storms. I get cold feet but man up and have ways of dealing with it. If you plan on misplacing a sage rod this weekend come down to elk. 6'3" red beard, grey breathers, camo jacket chucking spoons and loving life. My season doesn't end til they're back in the lake so see u on the trib...

A bad day fishing is better than a good of anything.

I don't always exercise my shoulders...but when I do I fish for steelhead....

I won't fish if it's under 20 degrees unless I'm on ice. It's no fun. Frozen eyelets and frozen ropes aren't worth it for me.

Many good replies/suggestions posted for you Deetz. I was going to mention the heated socks after reading a number of posts, but then saw at least two others have suggested it also. Don't "man up" as some have suggested. In the type of conditions you [and all of us] attempt to endure, it's extremely easy to get frostbite without realizing it. You don't want a bill for the ER or worse, amputated toes. Hope you find a tactic that works.

I'm giving in and buying some neoprenes with boot foot. Easier than walking in snow with felt wading boots too.

If you don't mind the "clunkiness" of the boot feet, they are the way to go.  In Winter conditions, I don't typically walk as far as compared to warmer times, even when circusheading.  Usually a bit more open water and just don't want a 2 mile hike while freezing anyway...  I wish mine were a bit thicker rubber in the ankles and higher Thinsulate.  Mine are only 200 gram Thinsulate, which still does a good bit compared to stocking foot.  There are some really nice looking cold weather ones, with 1K+ grams.  I have read that over a certain amount really doesn't do much, but who knows.  I'd recommend checking them out before buying and take a look at the ankle and boot portion.  Press down on the top of the boot and ankle, if they look like they will collapse in, if under water, that will cut circulation and doesn't matter how much insulation.  Although this adds weight if they reinforce, it is one thing that I wouldn't mind adding weight for on mine though (higher thinsulate, may be enough to stiffen this?).  Wear your ploylprop & alpaca (or wool) socks when you try them on (Old Spice, rubber tubing and bubble wrap optional).  If you go a size or so larger, it may allow for another layer of insulation, but will be a bit more clunky when walking, so you may not want to follow the "size up" rule that you always hear.  It really depends on how they feel with what you plan on wearing under, so plan to try on with if you can.  Suck it up, and be that weirdo taking a full lap around the store in sausage tight neoprene waders to get a good feel (make sure you do when really crowded).  I wish that I would have thought it out a bit more when I bought mine.  That said, mine being under insulated, a half size large and a bit flimsy at the ankles are still much warmer than my stocking foot breathables.   I also had a gift card and family discount, so being a cheapace, I went that route...

BTW - Check out WallyWorld's shoe department.  They have some rubber, strap on carbide spikes.  They should help out a bit for wading the slippery flat rocks.

Thanks pork, good advice. I will have 3 small children with me so I won't be able to walk too far (gonna take them to see the aquarium) but I will bring my goatskin bubble wrapped old spicy tubing socks to try on with them.
