Thanksgiving weekend Sunday
Well insomnia woke me up at 430 AM so I decided to go up (actually it was probably too many naps and going to bed early on Saturday). Left the house by 530 getting to my favorite spot and finding it devoid of people except 3 guys across from me. Toward light the other side filled up, but my side stayed pretty empty except for 3 guys up from me. Slow was not the word for it for the the first 2 hours for most of us. The guys up from me getting into a few fish with one quick head shake for me and not a tap on the other side. At around 9 after changing flies around 15 times I started to pick away here and there. It seemed they wanted sucker spawn color not important. Got hits on Pink, blue, orange and creme. Most were a few head shakes or a quick run. Got into a real screamer running down the whole pool running down the whole pool in what seemed like 5 seconds jumping twice and taking me into the backing and popping the hook. A bit later I got a snag and brought in a wad of line. I was scavenging swivels and weight when noticed a few tiny worms wiggling around, on close look it seemed to be a tiny sedge worm, it was greenish brown and about a 16. Unfortunately I had only one fly that small in the box. Worked well for 3 hits and 1 to the bank before the rock in front of me claimed it. Ended up banking 3 today and lost a few more and for good measure no knots or tippet were broke all lost fish just popped the hook. Sorry for the crappy pictures I see I cut the head and tail off the my biggest one this year it was double digit though , it is SOOOO difficult to net the fish, try to keep it safe and take a picture on my phone when I cannot see the screen by myself . The one fish had 2 lamprey marks on it. Almost all fish hooked were on our side, the guys across from us got maybe 2 or 3 quick hook ups in 7 hours or so and there was easily 10 guys over there during the early AM . I fished from 7 am till 2 pm

Clint, I was one of the last guys over on the "other side" Sunday morning. I saw you over there hook up twice and, I think, take the photo of your fish that got cut off...I recognize the green fleece sleeve! I wish I knew it was you and would have said hello. I was trying to fish a yarn worm fly with no success and then some couple from your side started "bombing" my side with their casts. Got sick of it and moved down stream. You are the only one I saw with a hook up the 2 or so hours I was there. Congrats!

Was it later in the day and the guy and gal shooting it out not casting???? I told him in a very nice way that I really did not care how he was casting, but if DEC was there he would get a ticket for that. The weight was CLEARLY shooting the fly through the guides, no roll cast no nothing. I was really surprised at the lack of hookups over there, usually a few in the right places, but nothing. It was a sucker spawn day for sure as the guys right up from me had no luckand switched out after I told them and they hooked a couple.

I was there about 10:30 and went downstream by noon. I had sucker spawn but I have never had good days using on the Salmon River and just chalked it up to the clear water conditions usually. I have used it with good success over in the Erie tribs however, especially with murky water. I could have used that tip! Hopefully I will see you up there in the future, maybe over Christmas/New Years.

I do well with the sucker spawn in white , blue and orange. Yarn version, not the crystal braid version.

June Bug is a rescue so not exactly sure of pedigree. She looks to me like American bull dog/pit bull mix. Very sweet dog, very lazy, not terribly smart which is like most PBs I know. Loves kids and people...and the snow last weekend! More excited than our st. Schnauzer, Herbie! She plays kinda goofy like a boxer though now that you mention it.
