Annual wader thread
Well, after spending 4 1/2 hours in 50 degree water in waders multiple leaks, its time to consider asking santa for a new pair of waders. I probably can still wear these leaky ones during the summer months, but I'd like to get another pair for the cold water months. The pair i currently own is the field and stream brand. They did not last very long, although they were comfy.
Any thoughts?

I'm cheap, so I don't have any top end recommendations with lifetime warranties and such. Have 2 pairs of waders. Hodgman stocking foot breathables that I bought on clearance for $30 at Walmart. Think they generally retail for around $70-$80. Going on 5 years with no leaks. Wear 'em probably 20 times a year between steelhead fishing, local trout cricks, wiper fishing at Moraine and duck hunting. Cabelas 3.5 mm stocking foot neoprenes. Think they were around $70. Going on 4 years with no leaks. Wear probably 10-15 times a year between steelhead fishing and duck hunting. Might want to repurpose your old ones. I have an older pair of neoprene and breathables that I cut the feet off of and use in the rain for hunting or when I'm feeshin from shore.

I think, unless you are bucking up for the top dog brands, you're playing roulette (from reading just about every annual wader thread here and other places for a while). Some brands seem to last some folks much longer than others. The only ones that I would recommend are Simms (or Simms made brands), although have never owned any other top dog waders to compare to. Stocking foot in anything less than 40 or so degree water is asking for cold feet, especially if standing still in that cold water for hours. I bought a pair of boot foot neoprenes for that at Dix last year, and worked fine for the 2-3 times that I have used them. Not long enough for a good review, but kept my feet much warmer than the stocking feet. Also made sure to try those on, and ample room for polyprop liner socks and thick wool top pair. Hang them after every use. I only box them up when they're going to and from the fishing hole. A boat will keep you out of the water even better... Good luck.

LL Bean. Even if they do leak, Bean has a bomb-proof 100% no questions asked satisfaction guarantee on all of their items. Buy a pair of waders and they start leaking a year or two later? Send em back for a new pair. I used their waist-highs for 2 years, and all three pairs leaked (they redesigned them this year, so I'm thinking this was a manufacturing flaw). I fooled around and didn't send them back for like 8 months...when I returned them, I got my full refund back, which I put toward a pair of waterfowling waders. No hassle whatsoever.

Based on what ive seen with those simms waders, that might be a bit too far out of my league in terms of price. I love to wade and I dont mind spending (wasting?) money on hobbies, but $400 for waders is pushing it.
Good call by Cold, LL Bean might be worth checking out. Have you every gone to their store in the North Hills? It would be nice to try on a pair before making the plunge. I'd enjoy buying a boat, but buying a boat means buying a new vehicle. And I dont want that.

My guide series boot foot breathables are starting to leak just a bit. I think they're 4 years old. Im pleased with that. But ll bean may be in my future due to the warranty. Anyone have their high end ones? If they're the last ones I buy I may no mind paying a bit of extra $. Only problem I see is the biggest boot size is 13, and those are only available in xxl, fat guy xxl I assume. Unfortunately I'm not fat.... gotta try some on I guess.

I have summer and winter redhead waders, both have only about a year of wear but I put them on every time I head out. So far no leaks and no complaints. Winter ones are neoprene so they are too warm to wear anytime other than dead of winter. Lol

I have the LL Bean waders - I actually just upgraded. I had a cheap pair of their Flyweights, and I was going thru them in about a season with the bushwacking I do. Took them back, and upgraded to the Emerger II - I threw in an extra $60 for the swap. These will be the last pair of waders I ever buy - lifetime guarantee is well worth the extra you put out up front.

I am 6', 225 and got the XL's. They fit very nicely - a little roomy with just shorts and a T-shirt, but enough room to wear a couple of layers steelhead fishing and still be comfortable.

The Emerger waist-hi are what I had 3 lemons in a row with. Yes, I've been to the store, most recently to help a buddy pick out a pair of breathables. They have only a small selection in the store, but if you're going for their lower tiers of waders, you should be okay. Call ahead to see what they carry, and plan on eating at the Cheesecake Factory next door!

I've been to the cheesecake factory in the soutside works. the food (especially desert) is pretty good, but id rather walk in my leaky waders around the mouth of saw mill run after a torrential downpour than wait in line at the cheesecake factory. it is a fate worse than death.

My neoprene Remmington chest waders are well over ten years old and still no leaks. Granted I only use them about 3-4 times a year.

I've got two pair of neoprene boot foot chest waders. One I bought (Rangers from Erie Sports store) and Cabela's that I inherited from my brother. They were a little over $100 when purchased. Both are well over 10 years old, both are warm and neither leak. I've been wearing the Cabela's this fall to land my boat to my trailer. In the late spring, summer and early fall, I wade in shorts and tennis shoes.
