report late oct

Got in late Monday the 21st in mid 60s weather-did leaves and lawn Tuesday in the rain and misty mid 40s weather-wet leaves unghhh.
Fished on Wed the  23rd after the early drizzle- went up to the bovines and it was GREAT. VERY few fishermen where I walked to and lots of fish including many nice looking Kings mixed in with Steel. Was surprised at the number of nice unmolested fish- only  saw a couple of Zombies and a few that were long dead.
Fished a 200 yard stretch for hours and only had two other guys quickly  walk through and a few boats pass by. Water was a bit murky and with lots of fly changes settled in on a double orange  egg with white hairs over the eggs on a 6 hook.
Spawners were here and there- most fish seemed not ready as yet and I chose to drift behind the active fish for those attracted by drifting eggs. Don't think I ever had so many legit hookups as that day. Most all still had the fin too. Was surprised at that.
Considering the number of beds in the area it appears that I had missed the main spawn having been away for a few weeks--however the number of fish there  told me there was certainly more to come. Musta been a nice new push recently.Thought I had missed out on the spawn this year.
Kings an Steel throughout that stretch were in good enough numbers as to be compared to an excellent early October outing. What a great year it has been and continues to be.
While walking a high bushy bank and looking down at fishes  saw  a VERY LARGE King swim on up through-he was HUGE- likely the longest King I have seen in over 30 years on the river.
Could have gone up stream and tried for him but frankly was concerned he was a tackle buster and just enjoyed the show.  Really appreciated watching him- or her. For that matter most of the Kings all season were nicely sized and very active--NOTHING like that brute though.
Thursday brought rain Sleet and snow in 34  degree temps- the river had also risen significantly-  left my white lawn and bugged for CT- was in the mid 40s and sunny before getting to Rome- LAKE  EFFECT- lol.

Trevor, sounds like you had a GREAT day, hope I have a couple next week like that. The DSR reported lots of fresh Kings recently and with this high water they should move quickly to my secret spot. The main interest for me will be Steel,or browns, but if I see some Salmon in good shape I'll try them too.As far as I'm concerned they're all great when they're frisky!

That's worth every mile of drive and every wet leaf raked, Trevor. Very nice.  You should've tried the brute- would have been some memory win or lose. Still is, but.....

That thought haunts me a bit Charlie   lol.
He was HUGE- wondered if he was  King at all but he sure looked it-what else ???
Frankly with an 8 wt rod and 8 lb test some of  the other  fish had pretty much already tested my  limits- he was nothing like those others--Dont know if I have ever seen a 40 plus King
-kinda happy he is in good shape and still out there--great breeder for our future- male or female

Hey- by the way- with the Circus outa town there were very few fish wearing ornaments- real unpressured fishes away from the parking lots- a  gift on the SR any time but especially now with numbers still around. Gonna be a nice November.

Are the Hybrids bigger????    Man,  I have seen some big'uns up there this year too.    Still a ton of spawners and fresher fish on Wed for me too.

Well- life has been in the way of fishing lately and I haven't been back for my favored November trips. Missed them  this time around.  Have been fishing 'remotely' through the reports of some of you guys and really appreciate them.
Deer hunting has been terrible here- one sighting- of a brute- early on and not one single sighting since despite being out every day- in some real good time tested  spots too. Temps been in the low teens most of  last week  and its LOUD and still in the woods. Even the bushy tails aren't out-all week like that. Experienced friends in other areas are having the same issues.
Got warmer and wetter today so tonight will be a long stand. Will be out most all day all week.
Good luck to all with fur and fishes.
Next season already planning most all the muzzle season at my place in SR country-fur or fins ??- what hard decisions we have to make in the great outdoors.
