Crooked Creek/Loyalhanna and other ACoE lakes.
Can anyone actually confirm or deny whether or not the gates/chains are closed or up at the ACoE lakes in the area? Like is the "STOP" gate closed at the spillway road at Crooked Creek and is the gate at the top of the hill at Loyalhanna and Conemaugh Closed as well? This whole stupid government shut down is very frigging vague on their "All closed" crap. And I didn't bother picking up the phone to call the ACoE office in Pittsburgh or any of the local lakes to ask because more than likely I would get "Due to the Government Shutdown" blah blah crap crap. I know according to the Yough Lake Facebook page the only thing "Open" is Jockey Hollow because it's a PFBC launch and not ACoE. Or is it all just the amenities that are closed etc...

Mags, I was told that all Corps areas in the USA are closed to hunting & fishing. I know for a fact that Conemaugh gates are closed & have a sign on them as I was there on Tues.,the main gate & the 1 at Aultman Run were closed. A friend was at Conemaugh and was asked to leave. My understanding is that these area are patrolled by the Pa. fish Comm. & the PGC. sam

Not to debate politics/law but this is the most BS and absurd crap I've ever seen. My main argument is I pay taxes and that money means I OWN a STAKE or PART of the land and provide $$$ for the projects to be maintained and such. But, if there is signage and such I guess abiding is all you can do no matter how crappy it is or how much you want to fish those areas... =/ And I was hoping to hook into hopefully another nice Walleye like I did last weekend at Crooked Creek.

Yep, its not just B.S. , its A.B.S. (Absolute Bulls***). I had to laugh at a photo in this mornings Tribune-Review. It was a photo of a Road Closed sign blocking the road leading to the Gettysburg National Military Park. I got to thinkin'. Boy, we coulda stopped Hitler in WW II if we would have only closed all the roads around Germany. That sure would have put him in his place. What a joke.

The question I would have is where does the acoe property end. There's a long stretch of stream between cc outflow and the river. Where does it close?

I would assume that their property ends right below the handicapped dock, but a lot of the stream bank is posted between there & rt.66.,by landowners. I would go to that Sheetz store at ford city & make a turn west to the mouth of Crooked Creek at the Allegheny, the Eyes & skis have to enter the river there. We usualy did well there in the fall for everything. sam

ACoE ramps are closed. They did get a 1 week extension to tie up loose ends at the lakes. I was reading that Raystown is in the process of an emergency 7' drawdown since it won't be staffed (7' on a 30 mile lake is a lot of water!)

Technically the lakes should have to have at least 1 individual to monitor lake levels even though the USGS can do it remotely and can change discharges etc via the AoCE project HQ I think. Also here's the link from the USGS to the current automated data stream from USGS 01563200 Rays Br Juniata R bl Rays Dam nr Huntingdon, PA. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/pa/nwis/uv?site_no=01563200 I think your info may be a bit off Traillblazer (no offense) but, at any rate. I think that the current "shut down" is one of the top 5 reasons America is viewed as a joke nation of the world. Because we have 500(+/-) grown adults acting like idiots, a man child president who cries and whines and stomps his feet when he doesn't get his way, and a general public who is TOO STUPID OR LAZY to educate themselves to see that their elected officials could really care less about their WANTS/NEEDS/VIEWS and more about the $$$ that lines their pockets while they are in D.C granted it's only about 10% that may care about the PEOPLE of the nation and not their own wallet but that's not enough... =/

Sam, what about leased properties? Specifically thinking about hunting at Virginia Farms at Conemaugh, which is USACE property leased to the PGC. It's a big enough piece of ground that I plan to go hunt anyway, and if they find me and ask me to leave, okay, but I won't make it easy for them.

Cold, I am only guessing, but since it is leased to the PGC as is the land by Westinghouse,I would say that it would be o.k.. sam

Not to make it political or anything, but, as long as Obama's private chefs and camp david are still funded and the golf course remains open, all is good.... The Senate Dems won't pass any temporary funding bills proposed by the House and even if they did, Obummer stated he would veto them. The feds are trying to shut down state waters adjacent to Padre Island Nat'l seashore and 1100 sq. miles of ocean near the FL keys. He better be careful about P'ing off those Texans. He may get more than he bargained for. Makes me want to puke seeing what this country has become.

My info was from a post Seven Points that they put on Facebook. I was wrong, its 9' and not 7'.I just checked the lake data and the level hasn't moved. Its all a joke. Here was their post: "Looks like we may be closing early due to the government shutdown! We need all to get their boats out as soon as possible. We were scheduled to be open till 13th but after this weekend it may be restricted access with all water and sewage in facilities would be closed. All mates who have boats in the rack building need to get them winteried asap so we get can the other boats out of the water to put inside for winter storage. Along with the shutdown there will be a 9' drop in water level so we are going to have to run a tight ship to get everything out of water ASAP! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN HTIS MATTER!"

Hey, It doesn't affect me personally in the least bit (yet), but I find it sickening, all the same. I feel for those affected. Sorry I didn't make it vaguely informative as all your posts usually are. PS - good luck hunting, hope you score and you don't get pinched for trespassing while doing it.
