Carp fishing in the fall and winter
I usually have the poles put away for the year by september but im always reading on here about guys carp fishing year round. Seems im missing out on some action. By now all the good spots ive found in spring are full of vegetation, making it impossible to fish so ive had to look around for new ones. I think i may have found a few. One tip ive heard lately for fall carping is to fish against the water, where all the food and debris is washing up because the carp will come there to feed. Has this proven true for anyone? How do your fall and winter carp strategies differ from spring and summer techniques?

I haven't targeted them in fall and winter much but did see a few mudding around in the bottom at mammoth a few days ago. So they're still feeding for sure.

Easily digestible proteins are a safe bet for cold weather.

Sept and Oct are great carping months.............they're feeding heavily before winter sets in. Pre bait your spot and they will find it.

Walleye jigs Carp fishing at its best !
Dear lord! Well deer season is over so I'll be hitting Twin Lakes later this week for some wintertime carpin'. I'll report back on how it went. Also, thanks for the tip flyingmoles. I don't believe any of my carp baits contain much protein other than crawlers. Maybe some kind of bean-based doughball will work?

I fish rivers and creeks or anywhere hot water gets pumped in once we get this late in the year. Falling temps dont affect river fish as much as lake fish imo.
Simple baits, light lines, an small hooks will up your chances. Dont over think carp fishing they jus dumfezh.

Ive never really targeted them in lakes but in creek n rivers Ive always had good luck nymphing for them...simple pt's and eggs are always a good go to. White buggers always seem to produce also.

I do think fishing against the water can sometimes have its advantages but i have fished twin lakes for a long time. and i think the fish just seem to move in schools well the carp anyhow regardless of the way the current goes. now keystone SP, i do think they will follow the current a little more to feed but i think its mainly just what feels right and adjusting on the fly.

Flathead i think youre right. Ive been doing 90% of my carp fishing there for the past two years and have noticed this too. Ill often walk around the lakes with no intentions on fishing just to look and learn the carps behavior. Didnt seem like they cared about the direction of the flow.

my personal thought behind the carps behavior is actually the structure of the lake and how deep the lake is twin lakes is so shallow that the fish just kinda hangout in the same spots i think instead of them out cruising the lake they move to spots and sit then move on to another. Its nice to see another person so into this type of fishing there isnt many of us around.
