Greenlick meeting

Patty Miller & I was at the meeting with the Public Works director Robert Carson & 9 others yesterday. Three of them were representing concerned citizens from Dunlop Lake Park & the WCO from Fayette Cnty. Scott Opfer, was there also.Basicaly we found out that they were having the same problems with the other parks that we have at Greenlick concerning vandalism & poor maintainence of the grounds. The cnty subcontracts this work as do most other Agencys in the state. This year the contract went to Goodwill Agency, which we all agreed did a terrible job & will prob. be replaced in the coming year. The ongoing prob. with the restrooms is serious with very few solutions. The Cnty. placed 12 port-a-johns at the parks,6 were burned down,& 2 were smashed by vehicles so far. This resulted in $ 4000 loss. they may pull out the remaining ones for the rest of the year. We suggested that they take the garbage bins out also since they are being used mostly by people bringing in household trash. Also it was suggested that the park be closed at dusk & re-opened the following morn. which I objected to because I think that we fishermen were being punished un-fairly by that idea. The group from Dunlop suggested that the Cnty. raise taxes by 1 mil. with that money earmarked for the Park system. I personaly don't think that the Comm. would go for that because of the public outcry. All in all, the prob. is that there is not enough money being set aside for recreation in the County budget. The WCO promised more presence at the parks & also we were told that there will be more police presence there also & that they will prosecute anyone caught vandalizing Park property. We as sportsmen must do more to help clean up all property that we use ,such as parks ,Game lands etc. it is not fair but it is one of the few choices that we have. I will be glad to answer any questions & to relay any suggestions that anyone may have. I will not answer Trolls. You can help by joining the Jacobs Creek Watershed go to (  www.jacobscreekwatershed.org) There is another meeting scheduled for Dec., I will let people know if there are any up-dates.   sam

Well, doesn't it seem that raising taxes solves all?! And, of course, all of that additional tax revenue will go to where it was pledged, RIGHT? That's actually not a question, I already know the answer....NOT LOOKING FOR A RESPONSE!!!

Agreed taxes will do nothing but go to some politician pet project. Closing the gates won't work either. They will find a way in regardless. Why should we be punished for their crimes. I am going to join the Jacobs Creek Foundation Sam. Going to go to the link. I for one are one of the few that do call and verbally approach the degenerates. I carry and I let them know and it usually draws a familiar hand gesture but they do seem to depart. This takes the sportsman to speak up and stand their ground. I got my feet planted on this and don't plan on moving. Thanks Sam for all you have done!!! Like Larry says "Let's Git -R- Done".
