Tying on Shanks

Picked up a few shanks and decided to give them a whirl this season, and I have a few questions for yinz that have lots of experience with them:

1) How do you mount them in your vise for tying?  I've got a Regal and a D-K Trekker, and love them equally well...thinking the easiest is to turn the D-K 90 degrees, but I'd like to get the opinions of those who do it regularly.

2) What hooks do you use for trailers?  I've gone looking for suitable hooks several times, but can't seem to find any that look "ideal" to me.

3) What do you prefer for trailing wire?  Beadlon?  PowerPro?  Backing?  Mono?  Fluoro?  Looking for suggestions on material as well as knots/loops/etc. used to actually make the attachment, as well as any tips on suggested length.

1 - regal will be easier, since there is no goose neck in the way

2- depends on rigging... but i like octopus hooks... gamas are available lots of places

    3- i use fireline

KJH, how should I mount a shank in the Regal?  Will it hold it flat?

    MFC.

Maybe the same maker, I'm not sure?  Picked up some 25 & 30mm ones.

While I gotta admit I laughed a little reading it...why the fishskull hate?  GS-linked disdain?

All I use are those fish skull shanks. Those things are the bomb!  Best product going, aside from their fish skull masks.  Just awesome stuff.
