Yellow Creek State Park

There was a death today at Yellow Creek. Fisherman went in to retrieve his boat that drifted away. People, never go in after your boat. It isn't going anywhere. Let someone come help you with another boat. It isn't worth losing your life over.

I just want to know why someone would have to go under water to retrieve a boat that drifted away with someone in it? The news did say the other guy was in the boat right? The news also said the searchers did patterned dives through the lake, and the body was found 50 feet from the launch? It took them 30 minutes to find a body that was 30 feet from where they started? The whole story is sad and strange.

Yes the other guy was in the boat.  Do not know why he couldn't drive the boat back in.
I launched my boat there once and had it drift away.  The 2 guys with me thought the other guy had the rope.  Anyway the wind was blowing right and blew the boat back in.

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

it looks like he must've dove into the water and hit something with his head.  reports indicate major head and neck trauma - but why?  wonder if we'll ever find out what really happened.

Sounds a little fishy (no pun intended) to me. Even if you did go in after your boat, who would run and dive like that for there to be head and neck trauma? I would just jump in and swim to the boat.

I wonder why the guy in the boat couldn't run the boat to the dock, or throw a dock line? Or how about when the guy in the boat noticed he was drifting away why he didn't hold on to the dock? Why would he let himself drift away like that? More to this story than meets the eye it seems.

Could have been a newbie that had no clue what to do or someone older that really couldn't do much.  Didn't see/read the story so I am just speculating.

Depending on water clarity, weeds, etc., yeah, I could see how it could take a long time to find a body sitting on the bottom of a lake.  You do sink when you drown (most times).  Takes a few days to start floating from the gases produced by decomposing.

    Prayers out to the family.

I was looking for the report - where did you see it?

I live about 10 minutes away from the dam. Fished down there this past Monday evening with my son and grandson. We discussed this drowning and I came to the conclusion that the explanation as to how this all played out just doesn't make sense to me.

Greatness is not measured by what we have,
    but by what we give.

I heard the autopsy report on the TV that said he died of head/neck trauma - here's one link that seem to indicate that he did indeed dive into the water:

My friend and I were fishing at the lake that morning. We drove right past the rescue crews and had no idea what had happened. Got home later that night and watched the news. Crazy
