2 of my cameras are wild game micro 4s, I use those on video because I didn't like how their still photos were coming out. I got those a few years back, so I switched them to video and was amazed at what I was missing. These cameras I use for "inventorying" my deer, seeing how many deer are in a group, what time they are coming by and how frequently.
The big down sides to video is you need a good size card in them, and expect to replace the batteries more often. My micro 4 cameras take AA batteries so I get the Dollar general Alkaline (not heavy duty) batteries and they last for about 200 30second video.
The Stealth Cam I have over a stump I put mineral on every year, this camera is the one that I use with 3 shot burst still photos. I use this camera to learn the different bucks racks, and to get a real good judgement on a deers size.
I also have a Plot watcher camera I will be putting out here in a few weeks. This will be my patterening tool. A lot of people don't understand the exact use for the plot watcher cameras, but they are super at what their intended use. Here is what they are ment to do:
Say you hunt near a small field, you know deer are feeding in it and you got nice deer on your trail cameras. But the trail camera only works when the deer are in front of the camera. A plot watcher can be set to take still photos every 5,10,30,60 seconds and set for all day light hour or a few hours in the morning and evening (hunting hours), and it will not take photos at night.
I will put this camera up in my tree stand over looking, it doesn't have to be the tree your hunting out of just getting it a vantage point. Let it run for a week. Check it, and see where the deer are entering the field, and how long they are staying, maybe you notice they are hugging the one edge more or maybe using that field on every 3rd day...something that can lead to you going in and setting your stand in a better location based on what you found.
Plot watcher is not an inventorying tool, it is a battery powered version of you sitting in the tree. It tell you the when and where the deer are coming from during HUNTING HOURS, not the size of your deer that's where your trail camera comes in. With the PW camera generally your photos may be from deer 20-150 + yards away, you know they are deer, but you cant make a good judgement on a rack size or compare body size, you just know they are deer.
