humorus event at Greenlick

Was at Greenlick this evening,a guy put his minnow trap at the dock area, about 1/2 hr. later he goes to check the trap & when he pulls the rope up, there is nothing at the end of it.Then he spent the next 1/2 hr. trying to snag the trap, he only got 1/2 of it,the other 1/2 is still there. Would have been a lot funnier if that guy wasn't ME.  lol  sam

That is kind of funny Sam. As we get older things like that just seem to happen. Hang on to the half you retrieved, someone reading here may "land" the other half.

Walt, The wind was pretty brisk & the waves must have pushed it under the dock where it drops off a little, because of my back I couldn't reach under it with a long handled net that I keep in the truck. The only good thing was that when it happened there was no one else on the lake. lol  but a few people showed up at dusk. With the mostly overcast afternoon I though that I would do better than I did. I only got a couple of small bass on jigs.  PS my wife & I went to the picnic on Sun. that the Jacobs Creek Watershed held,I thought that you might be there.  sam

Wasn't even aware of the picnic. Haven't been out to the lake for almost a month. Do they finally have the hay fields(grass) under control?

Wally, Grass needs cut again, but not bad. They use porta johns now, which seems to be working well. However, the trash problem is still bad. As soon as the County emptys the hopper, the in-breds show up with their household garbage. As of yesterday the hopper was still overflowing with trash all around it & the barrels near the pavilion were overflowing also. There is talk of them taking away the hoppers , which I think would be best & also of closing the park at dark, which I tried to convince them was a BAD idea. We need someone who cares enough to maybe take pictures of the mess & present them to the Fayette Cnty Commisoners at a County meeting. I can't do this because I live in Westm;d Cnty. I talked to the leader of the JCWA at the picnic about the possibility of finding some org. that would sponsor reg. trash pick-up. If anyone reading this has any ideas they can p.m. me & I will try to forward them. BTW this is not an invitation for some of the TROLLS on here to chime in. Also I know that a lot of us do pick up after others & I hope that others will consider doing the same. Just carry a plastic bag with you,it is not hard to do. Also get the kids started early.   sam

Need someone to set up a camera to see when & who is bringing their trash.  Then one day have a cop waiting for them.

Cold, That is a good idea, maybe even a trail camera? Must be locals, because they don't have required trash collection in their zoning laws & the dumping starts the same day the dumpsters are emptied & they don't empty them at any certain time or day. The problem exists everywhere there are dumpsters with easy access. Westm'd Cnty has the same prob. so they eliminated the dumpsters in slow periods of use.  sam

The garbage situation is just out of hand. It's too easy to fill a 30gal bag, just along the shoreline. There's nowhere to put the filled bags, since the dumpsters are always full. I end up taking them home and putting them with my own garbage, but since that puts me over my limit with the trash service. They want me to pay more for pick up. My solution has been to stop fishing there.

Was out this evening, got the other half of my trap pretty easily. The lake was down a little, didn't have any trouble finding it. Got a couple of small bass on top,saw a coup;e of guys get a few small bass on crawlers on the bottom. Thought I would do better because the weather was perfect. Actualy doing a lot worse than previous years on top.  sam

A few rounds from a .40 might stop them but that is sure to get you in a little hot water. How would these people like it if us fisherman went to their houses and dumped trash? Something tells me that their places probably look like that.

Back when the "negative element" was present, there were plenty of fish and not as much trash. Now it's nothing but a garbage dump. Makes me wonder who the real negative element is/was. I'm sure a lot of the garbage is from locals, but that place is crawling with people all the time. I liked it better when people were unnecessarily afraid to go there.

You know I think you are right. Back when the weirdoes were there, you didn't seem to have this problem. I think I'd rather have it the old way.

If they would just replace the lights and add cameras directly under them. Maybe that would stop some of the midnight garbage runs. Well... Until someone shoots the cameras, anyway. I'd hate to see the lake closed off at night, but if locking people out will fix the problem. So be it.

Sadly, the garbage along the shoreline would more or less stay the same. I know those empty night crawler containers are heavy, but if you have the strength to carry them in full. Surely, carrying them out empty can't be that hard. Since they're left lying everywhere, I guess my way of thinking is wrong.

This is unrelated to Green Lick but... I posted a thread on the off topic board, regarding Beanie. The owner of the store in Bridgeport. He was beaten badly last night and his attackers NEED to be found.

I have never heard of him. Was it a bait shop? Where was it at?

Beanie has the little store right in Bridgeport. He does sell bait, but it's a regular store.

I always go to Caruso's when I fish there. I couldn't think of the name of it when I seen this post. They're pretty good guys in Caruso's. Hope they catch whoever did that though.

I think the police have a name of one of the suspects but are unable to track the low life transient bum down. He's a dope user and runs with the same with no known address or legal residence.

There's all kinds of misinformation going around about the whole thing. I've heard everything from junkies to teenagers just looking for cash and smokes. I've also heard there are 2 kids in custody, 1 kid in custody, 2 guys found beaten and lying face down at the municipal building. As of this point, nothing I've heard has been remotely true. I guess it's just a waiting game to see what pans out. No matter who did it. Beanie didn't deserve what happened to him.
