Action was steady from 830 till I left at 130, unreal action.

Two picks of flys were broken hooks both on the strike and thrashing that ensued. Only saw kings and only landed 2 out of many, many hookups. Great day many players and never saw another guy till I was getting ready to leave. First time in a long time the fish have outnumbered the fisherman 1000 to 1

Great pics John.  Sounds as if whoever tied those flies romped down too hard when they placed the hook in the vise.

Definitely a possibility gerry, but I honestly have broken quite a few hooks through the years. Broke quite a few in the past few weeks even and they were river side flies made with glo bug yarn and a Snell knot never even clamped In a vice. I find certain hooks will brake on 12 pound and especially 15 pound and up...

John, that sure is a strange looking lake you fished today......WAIT is that a fly swatter next to that fish?
There should be a ton of fish at my secret spot when I get there in two weeks

Heading up from Cincinnati Thursday.....Will be in the DSR section Friday and Saturday...Of course the DSR is talking up the action.  Hope it's a lot better than what I encountered Labor Day weekend.

Dime, I have never had a salmon break a hook, straighten, but never broken.  I use Tiemco's or Mustad and occasionally Daiichi.  If you romp down on the hook when placing it in the jaws of the vise it puts a score mark near the bend and weakens the metal.  Its almost like scoring a piece of glass.
I fished with 12 lb tippet last season and had a few fish straighten hooks during that early season run.

I tie my own flies and also buy some on line.I never had a hook break on my ties,I use Mustad hooks. However I have had some hooks break from on line dealers, when I reported it they replaced my entire order and those hooks are good....so far.Don't know if they were cheap hooks or if they were damaged in the vice.

Gerry, those are all the best quality hooks money can buy. About 5 years ago we got our hands on some Edward sealy English style turned eye hooks by the thousand packs. They hold up well with 12 pound but maybe break every now and then. I've been running 15 pound so far this year as its what I have and I have broken quite a few. These were hooks that never went in a vice. Give it another 3 or so years i'll need to restock on hooks...Diachii tiemco and mustads can usually bend and just be bent back with pliers and still land fish...

THanks guys. I hope I get a chance to come up this weekend. It will be either salmon or Erie walleye in Oh.

You know I will! Pics as well. LOL. I am trying to find some info on how the fish are running in Sandy Creek.

For kings I usually use mustad salmon fly hooks. Had a few bend but none broke.
For steelhead I usually use a mustad caddis of egg fly hook. A couple times while fishing I checked the fly and found the points were gone, broke clean off.
It happens and most times I'd say Gerry is correct that I knicked them in the vise.

Still haven't tied a fly yet for this upcoming - happening , season. Some day..

Jack I think he is talking about the creek in Hamlin.
The same answer holds true though.
Don't know if it rained enough last night to really push the flow out into the lake.
Rained hard not long.

On another note Ddeux says there is to many words and not enough pictures.
So here are a couple he sent my way.
Oh look all the fins are intact.
She is a beauty.

Classic hero shot or were you born without elbows?
For serious that is a long sleek (but healthy looking) king right there friends.
Built to fight.

Very healthy Bob, and they were feisty... don't think I'll find kings as feisty for the rest of the season... the hero shot was a joke ;) had numerous strikes that day with my line straight down stream from me almost rippin the rod out of my handz.

The hero shot comment was a joke also, but you knew that already.
That was a very nice looking fish to be that far up the river:).
I used to fish up there but as I got older and grew into my hermit curmudgon phase I walked as far as current let me so people didn't show up till later.
Its amazing how many will stop when kings are throwing up roostertails all around them.
When I couldn't get a drift or swing I had gone too far.

Sorry for all the words but I ain't got no recent pictures.
Maybe next week.

Bob these days its a race to go down surprisingly. What I like about that water posted above is even with good movement you don't see any rooster tails which is what I prefer. Stopped down at Haldane yesterday evening. What a sight to see. Guys lined up in the shallows swatting at helpless fish in the shallows. Saw a fish caught and released to have another just go right after it. No wonder why there were a few hundred dead fish below town a few weeks ago..

Gerry, when you coming up?

We had a high of 91 here yesterday.  I wonder what downtown Pulaski will smell like this weekend?

High of 86 in p-town but it didn't get above 75 til around 2 o'clock. Water was sixty five at end of the day... with Wednesday being the lightest pressure of the week it shouldn't be too bad. The village smelled like straight up salmon yesterday not dead ones.

I'm not worried about the PC. All my important stuff ( music) is stored on external hard drives. The only thing lost is the ability to upload on the current iPod . Not really worried bout that to much either as its full 160gig , and time for another one.
Someone like me , I have 2 one terabyte externals . Each one holds about1,000 shows . A memory stick would be useless .

Well   I got the gas lines replaced on the car today and a head start on 1 of the brake lines.  1.5  brake lines left to do  tomorrow, not looking good for me................
