Allegheny's lock 9
I fished the dam this morning caught 3 smallies (one was a 4 pounder) 1 10inch walleye and a huge drum. All of the fish were caught on 1/16 oz jig head tipped with a minnow.. Just wondering if anyone had and tips on what to use up there and how to fish it any info would be very appreciated but I'm most interested in the walleyes

Not many northerns, but definitely big musky. There are lots of big eyes too and giant schools of sauger. I really can't help you too much though, because I can't figure that place out to save my life. If I had lots of time to fish it, I'd be able to do something, but 1 or 2 times a year isn't enough. I've had fantastic days down there and I've had dead days down there. It's a crapshoot unless you have some insider info or you get lucky. If you have a small boat, be very careful up by the lock. The undertow is unbelievable.

The only public one that I know of, isn't really a launch. It's a dirt launch that everyone uses. You just follow the road past the camps and turn off to the left. I've launched there with no problem and have seen much larger boats than mine launched there. I know that there is a concrete launch down there, but I think it is a private launch.

So where do all of those boats launch from? Surely they don't all launch from the dirt launch?

Launch ramp for below Lock 9 is at Templeton. Good big new ramp. About a 9 mile run to the dam.

I was thinking about heading back up this weekend. Any suggestions on what kind of live bait and how to rig it

Minnow on a jig head is about as good as it gets. I like chrome. I usually use creeks chubs or suckers under about 6". Just a hook and a split shot may be better in clear water.
