Bait shop thread?
Was hoping to get a thread with all known bait/tackle shops in one place. I often want to try new spots but I'm never sure if there's gonna be a bait shop close by, and I love to see the mom and pops supported. The ones I'm aware of: -Lock 3 Bait and Tackle - Freeport Rd. Love this shop, always quality baits there and good value on minnows. (Very pretty young lady working there a few weeks ago too!) - Allegheny Bait and Tackle - under the New Ken bridge, near the gatto shop. - Shadlure - I only know about them from this board, havent made it there yet. Scotia Hollow Road in Elizabeth. - North Park Sports Shop. Cant be missed, right by North Park Lake. Good quality bait and the guy there was really helpful about fishing the lake (I also believe he posts here, so if you read this, thanks! I was the guy with the ponytail who came in on Saturday who promised his kids trout, and we indeed had trout that night) - Peddler Village near little Boston - another one I've only heard about, I drove up but they were closed. I guess they dont open till later in the season? It's on Smithfield, about a mile from the boat ramp.

nice link crappie, never heard of that site. Chihli - Lock 3 bait and tackle is by far the best bait shop I've been too. Generous on the minnows, very good value.

Good thread idea. Memories in Sharpsburg, 6 Bouys in New Alex, Stapleton's in Saltsburg, I think the one around Delmont behind McD's has closed, Woodland Edge maybe? H&H in Homestead, no bait but fly tackle. There are two near keystone power dam, but never remember their names (maybe Keystone Bait to the east). One near blacklegs just north of saltsburg, and another somewhere near Apollo on 56 maybe? I enjoy Lock 3, Shad Lure, and FishUSA the most.

The Woodlands Edge in Delmont closed, the guys at 6 Bouys bought out some of his inventory. There is Jimmy's Bait shop next to the BP in South Greensburg, Scott's Bait right next to Donegal Lake, B&G Tackle in Normalville, and that's about all the ones I know of anymore.

TastyTrout Ultimate Outdoors on Rt. 286 in Plum Forgot that one. I'm in there often too. Do they have shiners/fatheads/minnies on a regular basis? I seem to remember the tanks being empty quite a bit. Regardless he carries a few hard to find items, and good prices on bulk bait. Is Jimmy's the place in the garage, kinda behind a house?

That was for Bobbers bait and tackle Sam. I was going to ask if you have been there yet. Some girls gave me a business card for it last year at the boat ramp at greenlick but I lost it and never stopped in. Wonder if they have Minnies?

That is absolutely fantastic. I've always wanted to be able to keep fatheads at home. Wife even said the other day that I could keep 'em in the basement, but I would just have no idea how to keep em alive. That's aweome, I may look into doing something like that myself!!

a few tips..... keep'em cold, dont feed them, get rid of dead ones ASAP, change water when it smells or gets clowdy about once a few depending on how many you have, dont use tap water unless its treated..(I always have a 2 liter in the fridge with good treated water so when i change, the water is always at temp and i dont shock them). use bait saver. These tips with inhibit bacteria and ammonia (the main reasons minnows die).

Gillz, I read that post last year but I couldn't find it,now I saw the sign at the top of the hill on the detour & I will try to stop in. I am surprised that with all of the locals that post here no one seems to know about it. sam

Im glad so many people here use minnows. I've always felt pretty inferior since they are by far my favorite bait and I've always done FAR FAR better on fatheads specifically than on anything else, natural or artificial. Always felt like I was cheating by using em lol

Those guys at Shadlure are getting old I think that may be why it has gone down hill. I still miss the bait shop on 51 in Rostraver across from Angel's Cycles. A little old lady ran it. She always had everything I needed.
