Question about local lakes

Can anyone tell me why all the local lakes that I fish ( Donegal, Kooser, etc.) have signs that say NO FISHING from DAM BREAST? What is the reason for that. I don't see what it could hurt.

Liability my friend. You have a greater chance of falling in and hurting yourself at those locations so that is why they are off limits.

Ok thanks. I have always wondered why. It is a shame that with todays society, they have to worry about things like that. I know myself, If I would fall and get hurt, I wouldn't be suing. I would dust off myself and my pride and get back to fishing. I know there are people out there that are just waiting for something like that to happen. I have seen guys on opening day, running to get their spot and fall. It is only a fish. Not worth all that.

I think the other thing to consider as well is if you are fishing a spillway you have a lot of water pressure going over so if someone was to try standing on the edge over the falls they would probably slip or loose their footing. I totally agree with everyone being sue happy. I got a new rod last year and they had a warning label on it do not use near lightning. lol It seems companies have to cover themselves against every little possibility now.

Yeah I can see your point about standing on the actual spillway where the water goes over but take Donegal for instance. There is a long part of the dam with grass and rocks. What would it hurt to walk out there and fish? I just don't understand it.

All those rocks make the dams great spots too. Used to do real good up against the dam at the Yough.
